A local Bedouin kid helped me tie a shirt around my face during a particularly windy (and therefore dusty!) part of the walk down.

One thing that's crazy about Dubai is that because it's pretty much built in the middle of desert, everything gets covered in a fine layer of sand! We wiped this bean bag off the previous night, but just a couple hours later and it was already totally coated with dust again. And this is on a balcony ten stories up!

Then I returned to my new room at Chez Sarah. Before leaving her room to me for the summer, Gurj explained that the air conditioner in the room "didn't work all that well." I pulled out the air filter and realized why - it hadn't been cleaned...ever. After I'd managed to fill up half of a giant styrofoam coffee cup with the gunk I cleaned out of the filter, the AC worked just fine. Score!
