No matter how many times you tell your rational brain that a shark doesn't really pose all that much of a risk, there's no stopping your limbic system from reacting. I'm surprised you can't hear the sound of my heart pounding against my ribcage in this video. The shark is a gray reef shark. And he was probably about 5' or 6' feet long.

...only to resurface five minutes later a couple hundred yards away!

After we got back on the boat, our captain moved the boat around the island to another dive spot while we were waiting for our surface time to be over. We anchored next to another group of divers that I'm guessing were practicing their underwater navigation skills. They submerged...

When I got to the surface...

...look who I found waiting for me! Meredith had just finished some snorkeling and was waiting in the water for us to return!

...but as we swam away from the island a bit out into the open water, the visibility improved greatly. Check out the size and brightness of this beautiful butterflyfish!

For the first dive, we anchored right off the coast of a tiny island called Ko Nang Yuan that's a couple hundred meters off the coast of Ko Tao.

A little less than two hours later and we found ourselves on the tiny island of Ko Tao! As soon as we landed, we booked a place to stay and I booked a bunch of dive trips with Asia Divers.
