On Friday morning I awoke to the sound of the Parks department cutting down my favorite Willow tree in La Plaza Cultural. The tree's roots had been damaged by salt water when the neighborhood flooded during hurricane Sandy and they were worried about it eventually falling over and hurting someone. Headed out into the world. Digging the newly-painted purple footprints. So much tree! Lining up for the woodchipper! See around, neighbor! Came back to find the tree totally gone. Came downstairs to watch them trim it down piece by piece. The city contractors had come to remove one of the giant willow trees that had been damaged by salt water flooding during Hurricane Sandy. My favorite neighborhood tree got a summer haircut!
