MisShapes Photo Shoot

In the beginning of May, Nerve hired me to write a piece called "Sex Advice from DJs." I was told I'd be interviewing Leigh and Geordan from Misshapes and then I'd have to come up with two other DJs willing to answer my questions and have their photos taken (I ended up interviewing Sarah and my friend Matty). After completing the interviews, I brought my fancy cam to Misshapes to take pics of Leigh and Geordan.

julia li — Before heading to Misshapes, Vin and I went out to Brooklyn to attend Julia's houseparty. Here's Mz. Li with a "special" guest.

me, vin — Vin and I also saw a guy whose ass was...

...eating his pants.

I left the party solo and headed back into Manhattan to check out Misshapes.

Right when I got upstairs, Leigh hooked me up with a frosty, delicious Bud. The place was so crowded that Leigh danced the beer right out of my hand and onto the floor where it shattered. (I think it was because she has a HUGE crush on me and she was all nervous).

bridget — Karen and Bridget commiserated over my loss.

No use crying over spilled beer. Especially when it can be fixed with a smooch.

sarah — Afterwards, I just missed catching Sarah making out with this boy!

leigh — And almost managed to capture Karen and Leigh.

leigh, me — The best thing about writing the piece was it meant I got to take Leigh aside and ask her dirty questions about sex for two hours.

leigh, me — See? All part of that "master plan" I've been talking about.

geordon, leigh, sean d — I took a few pics of Geordon and Leigh in action, but I'd forgotten my faster lens and wasn't crazy about how the pics looked with the flash.

geordon, leigh — And without a flash, the pics were just too blurry.

geordon — Geordon.

leigh — Leigh.

geordon, leigh — In the end, I decided that I'd come see them at Pianos in a few days and re-shoot them there with a lens that works better in the dark.

With that out of the way, I was free to get back on the dancefloor and shake my shit-tank.

Leigh came out from behind the decks to show Karen and I the secret message on her stomach.

Monday, May 10th

leigh — On Monday night I went over to Pianos where Geordan and Leigh were DJing again to take a few more pics - I wanted something really fun and naughty for the lead photo of the piece.

leigh — We tried "sultry looks."

geordon, leigh — Then "hot embraces." But something was missing.

leigh — And that something turned out to be Leigh's shirt! First we tried the "dropping the shirt off the shoulders" trick. I took a bunch of pics like this and thought they were great - but then Leigh had an even better idea.

leigh — Sweet Jesus.

leigh — Bingo. Here's the one that ended up getting used.

The only thing that makes the above photo even better is finding out that the record Leigh's using to cover her boobies is "Ca Plane Pour Moi" by Plastic Bertrand (aka - the Belgian punk rock song they play in "European Vacation" when the Griswolds are at the Louvre).
