Locals told me the statue is nicknamed BIG BUTTER JESUS because it looks like it's sculpted out of butter. Haha. I just looked the statue's Wikipedia entry and get this: "On June 15, 2010 the statue was struck by lightning and suffered major damage in the resulting blaze. The statue was sculpted using a thin skin of fiberglass over a flammable styrofoam interior stabilized by a metal frame, and the fire left only its internal metal structure." THOU SHALT NOT PORTRAY ME IN DAIRY!
...THIS AMAZING PHOTO! Hahahaha. Holy shit, this pic makes me LOL every time I see it. (Bonus points for the chopsticks standing in as a spear to the ribs!)
So we walk all the way down to Chinatown only to find that the party's long since over and all the cute girls (if they even existed in the first place) are nowhere to be seen (fucking Vin, sheesh).. But on the upside, on the walk back up towards the East Village, we found this picture of Jesus that someone had put out for the trash and we decided to save him (God knows how many people he's saved so, you know, it was the least we could do).
...when we got to the park there were all this scary "fire and brimstone " group preaching (read: SCREAMING) about how we were all gonna go to hell. Hell? Fuck! We quickly decided that with hell looming on the horizon we best not waste a day...and decided to head out to Prospect Park in Brooklyn...
