Made it South of the Border about 10 hours later and decided to call it a night. (I'm writing this Memorial Day 2022 and enough time has passed that I loved looking back on this bittersweet month.)
Connected my phone to my car and was surprised to see that my texts come through on the screen. I guess cars have changed a lot in the almost 20 years since I've owned one!
I was supposed to stay another 2 days, but the with the forecast calling for two days of heavy rain, I decided to pack it in early and head back to NYC.
Had a crazy travel day. Flight was delayed and they landed in Washington DC instead of NYC. Took a train from DC, but then there was a bomb scare and the train stopped in Trenton. Ended up taking a cab from Trenton for $170!
On the way back I took this picture when I had the thought "Oh shit, I think I'm going to buy this place." LOL. (Took me 8 months of thinking about it...but I eventually pulled the trigger in April of the following year!)
Kevin and I were really overwhelmed by so many hours of singing and prayer. We had no GPS signal and it took us a while to wander our way back to the highway and get headed in the right direction.

of the only building that's accessible, a red car zooms up and a spry 75
year old woman jumps out and runs, albeit with a slightly hunchbacked trot,
over to the porch where we're standing.
i take a deep breath and remind myself "there's no hurry. you're on vacation. there's no rush in getting there, you've got all the time in the world." this seems helpful until i wonder what i'm going to say to myself when i'm not in vacation and i am in a hurry. well, no time for that now.
In the morning I noticed we would be near Portsmouth, NH and I called Katie and asked her if she wanted to join us on our last minute road trip. She said she couldn't and we hung up. Then she called back a few minutes later and was like, "Nah, fuck it. Come get me!" Hahah. Yay! And that's how Kate joined our roadtrip!
...but after realizing that driving an RV is WAY more tiring than driving a car, I decided to scrap the plan for Acadia (which was still a really far drive) and just drive around and get lost.
