driving
The hotel called us a taxi to the airport.
driving
We had to drive from Ubud back to the first hotel we'd stayed at in Seminyak in order to drop off our rental car.
driving
Waiting on a school to let out.
driving
Even more up!
driving
Things started to get foggy and then we realized, "Oh, it's foggy because we drove up into the clouds."
driving
Up, up, up.
honeymoon in bali part two
September 06, 2009
driving
After hours and hours of driving up crazy steep roads that are were only four feet wide, we finally hit a main road with two actual lanes. The road was basically a continual hill.

driving
Different kind of farmland.

driving
The roads spiraled up around the mountains and each time we reached the top of the next set of hills, the views got prettier.
driving
Wow.

Green.
driving
Up in the highlands, we started encountering lots and lots of beautifully step-terraced rice paddys.

driving
Getting elevated.
driving
...onto a super-narrow local road. Most of the roads that wound up through the mountains were this wide. It doesn't look too scary here, but imagine having a 1,000 foot drop to your left and trying to share it with oncoming trucks whizzing around blind corners.
driving
After passing through this gate, we turned off the main northern road, and made a right...
driving
Then we hit the road. Bedugal or bust!
driving
After eating, we hopped back into our rental car and drove for like 3 minutes.
driving
After getting outfitted with gear, we hopped into a van with a bunch of other divers and headed out!

On the road from Tahoe to Reno.

Chuck trying his hardest to keep up with my dad (who drives like he's a bad guy from an episode of The A-Team).
driving
And the views of Lake Tahoe from higher up in the surrounding mountains are spectacular.
driving
The weather was perfect!
driving
Excited!
driving
...and we set out to drive around Lake Tahoe to a park called Sugar Pine Point State Park.
driving
and send me on my way with a note. Meredith dropped me off back at the hotel where I promptly went right back to sleep.

driving
...and it fills the horizon; ringed with mountains on the far shore.
driving
Lake Tahoe is breathtakingly beautiful. The road winds down from the mountains...
driving
We caught our first glimpse of Lake Tahoe a little bit past 3:30.
driving
That's where we're getting married!

Back on the road.

driving
Tuesday, 7:45am. Day two of our off-site.
driving
Ellen was commuting into NYC by train so she even let me borrow her car!
driving
Almost there! (Four hours to drive 77 miles! Noooooo.)
driving
Getting close to the water.
driving
Oh, and because all of the Jeep spare tire covers have Tweety Bird and/or Taz on them.
driving
I know it's hard to read - but Montel Jordan's THIS IS HOW WE DO IT came on the radio as soon as we hit the traffic-free road. Haha.
driving
We took the next exit and the traffic disappeared!
driving
We went a bit further south and hit total gridlock. Traffic was so backed up that the highway signs started announcing that some of the beaches were CLOSED because there was no more parking anywhere near them. With a car full of people and nowhere to go, Justin spoke up and said "My parents live near here." Silence. "Oh, and they have a swimming pool, paddle boats and a trampoline." The group unanimously decided to head to Justin's parent's house! Haha.
driving
Turnpike Apocalypse.
driving
No small feat for such a big group! (This group, in particular)
driving
We were all in the car and on the road by 11am!
driving
Leaving.
driving
Locals told me the statue is nicknamed BIG BUTTER JESUS because it looks like it's sculpted out of butter. Haha. I just looked the statue's Wikipedia entry and get this: "On June 15, 2010 the statue was struck by lightning and suffered major damage in the resulting blaze. The statue was sculpted using a thin skin of fiberglass over a flammable styrofoam interior stabilized by a metal frame, and the fire left only its internal metal structure." THOU SHALT NOT PORTRAY ME IN DAIRY!
driving
...and in front of the church there's a 60-foot statue of Jesus emerging from a pool of water.
driving
We drove east on I-75 from the airport into Dayton and on the highway there's a mega-church called Solid Rock Church...
driving
...and my dad drove us to the train station.
driving
Later that night we piled into two cars and headed out for dinner. Those expressions can only mean one thing! My favorite restaurant...
