Wednesday, July 1st

meredith — Edie and Meredith wishing me a happy July 1st. Good morning! Haha.

Sunday, July 5th

On Sunday, I watched a Norwegian gore movie called Dead Snow. All you need to know about this movie is included in its IMDB summary: "A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies." Haha.

Tuesday, July 7th

On Tuesday, I had to fly out to Dayton, Ohio for work. Tarmac 6:20am. Blarg.

I love flying over NYC in the daylight.

I know this is dumb, but somehow it's always shocking to me how much it looks "just like the map!" from the air.

Central park looks like aliens showed up and airlifted a huge chunk right out of the middle of the city.

See you tomorrow night.

We drove east on I-75 from the airport into Dayton and on the highway there's a mega-church called Solid Rock Church...

...and in front of the church there's a 60-foot statue of Jesus emerging from a pool of water.

Locals told me the statue is nicknamed BIG BUTTER JESUS because it looks like it's sculpted out of butter. Haha. I just looked the statue's Wikipedia entry and get this: "On June 15, 2010 the statue was struck by lightning and suffered major damage in the resulting blaze. The statue was sculpted using a thin skin of fiberglass over a flammable styrofoam interior stabilized by a metal frame, and the fire left only its internal metal structure." THOU SHALT NOT PORTRAY ME IN DAIRY!

Thursday, July 9th

On Thursday night we watched a science show hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson and paused it to see who could do the best impersonation.

Sunday, July 12th

meredith — The morning after her bachelorette party, Meredith posed for a couple photos before we took the decorations down.

maddy, meredith — Haha.

Not just any squirrel...

Later that afternoon we took the A train to Beach 67th Street. Far Rockaway Beach!

me, meredith — My eyes are so sensitive to light that it's hard for me to not squint even with my eyes closed!

me, meredith — I had to cheat and use the camera to shadow my eyes. Haha.

leigh, sebastian — Later that night I went to somewhere in the meatpacking district with Leigh and Scott. Leigh's friend Sebastian was in town from Miami DJing some party.

We walked through the doors and it was like we'd magically been transported to Miami!

More chandeliers means more class. Everyone knows that.

leigh, scott m — We went upstairs and found a tiny mirrored balcony booth.

leigh, scott m — Blue velvet and everything.

leigh, me — Leigh ability to dance in those shoes is almost impressive as my Jodeci coldlamp.

Monday, July 13th

I walked out the door to go to work Monday morning and right on the curb was a perfectly good table that someone was throwing out. Even better, it was almost an exact match to our existing table except it was narrower and less scratched up. So we gave the our table to a friend and kept the street one!

Thursday, July 16th

meredith — Meredith sleeps like this ALL THE TIME. With her legs hanging over the bed. She must sense that something feels strange, but rather than move...

meredith — ...she'll put her feet up and keep on sleeping. Haha.

After I got out of work on Thursday, I met up with Meredith at the Highline Ballroom to see Stellastarr.

This was as close to the stage as we could get!

Friday, July 17th

maddy — Maddy showing off her spots next to one of Meredith's horror short stories compilations! Hahah. (She's since moved on to science fiction...)

Saturday, July 18th

meredith — On Saturday afternoon, Meredith took a chair and folding table...

...and set up a table at a local craft fair in the neighborhood.

meredith — She was making jewelry with all sorts of things like MTA Metrocards encased in clear resin!

biggy, matt — Later that afternoon, we went over to Matt's...

...and went up to his ridiculous roof.

And a god-damn pool!

I can see our own pool-less roof from here!

doug — I left the pool because DOUG WAS IN TOWN! It had been almost two years since his last visit (9/07). Trying to give people directions to your apartment is crazytown especially if they're not familiar with the area so it's always easier to tell people to go to the deli on our corner. Haha.

doug, maddy — Doug and Maddy became fast friends as we caught up.

We ordered up a Thai feast!

doug — Homemade brownies for dessert!

doug, me — Around midnight we headed out...

patrick, rebecca r — ...to meet up with a bunch of people to celebrate Rachael's birthday! We didn't make it to the bar until around 12:30 and by then the party had moved to Rachael's apt! Becca and Patrick!

When we got back to the apt, we played Guitar Hero!

Or, rather, Doug politely laughed while I played Guitar Hero. Haha.

Sunday, July 19th

meredith — Sunday was so hot! We decided to make it a beach day!

doug — Get your towel and your tiny maroon shorts!

doug, meredith — Hit up Rite Aid for some beach supplies. Umbrella? Check!

Water and weird experimental snack purchase? Check! (Burger King Ketchup & Fries? WTF?)

doug — Doug's a Snyder's of Hanovers man, himself. (He eats those in the RATHERSKELLER!)

me, meredith — Transfer to the A at Broadway Junction. The connecting hallway between stations has stain glass windows.

We got off at our normal stop in Far Rockaway...

doug — We called Pauly and Lisa to meet up with them and found out that they were 30 blocks away. But it's always nice to walk the boardwalk, so we hoofer over to meet them.

The beach wasn't too crowded!

The beach they were at was considerably more crowded!

Nothing makes me happier than taking the subway to the beach.

lisa, meredith, pauly — The tide started coming in around 4:30 and I dug a "preventative trench" to protect our towels from the encroaching seawater.

A couple of minutes later the water filled the trench and I had to dig it out a bit.

Yo, but check out our trench! And check out all them dry towels!

The kid with the family next to us decided to help me dig and Meredith took this photo laughing about me digging in the sand with a ten year old. Haha.

doug, meredith — We packed up around 6.

doug, me, meredith — Awesome day at the beach.

meredith — We got slices on the boardwalk.

doug — Too hot to eat so we let them cool in the breeze a bit.

Mmmmm...shitty boardwalk pizza.

The shuttle train had stopped running for some reason earlier in the afternoon and so you had to wait in a big line to take a bus to the subway.

FUCK THIS BIKE!

The bus dropped us off at the Howard Beach/JFK station.

We waited for the A on the platform and watched the beautiful sunset.

Monday, July 20th

doug — Grant was in town and came to our apartment Monday night. Doug lives in Finland and brought along a bottle of Salmiakki.

doug — Doug said it was an "acquired taste" but that he really liked it.

He poured us all shots.

doug, grant, meredith — Me, Grant, Mer and Doug. Put em back!

grant — Grant?

grant — He didn't mind the taste!

meredith — Meredith? No big deal.

doug — Doug?

doug — REFRESHING!

Well, it didn't make me gag, but I didn't exactly enjoy it either. It tastes like salty licorice with a hint of bathroom cleaner. (Holy shit, it actually does have ammonia in it!

david k, doug, grant, me — Later that night we met up with David on the street and went to dinner! Meredith snapped this picture of us right after we all met up on the street. Love it so much.

Friday, July 24th

aziza — Friday after work we went out to celebrate Aziza's birthday!

aziza, me — Me and the birthday girl!

me, rachael — I left Aziza's after-work party to hang out with Rachael. I told Aziza to text me if they ended up in the East Village. She texted me at 3am and I totally...

aziza, dennis, donald — ...invited the late night crew over to after-hours at our place! Dennis, Aziza and Donald.

aziza, dennis, donald, me — Aw, yeah! Let's hear it for the auto-timer camera set atop the TV so I could join the photo!

Saturday, July 25th

amanda, cynthia — On Saturday afternoon I went to an afternoon drinks party that Amanda put together - but it was so so so hot outside that...

...I stopped at Blockbuster, rented a video game and cranked the AC. Meredith was off doing something else...

...so I got to rearrange the furniture and put my green chair up real close in front of the TV. Haha. Check out my COMMAND CENTER setup: remote, spring rolls, two kinds of M&Ms, cell phone, game controller. THUMBS UP!

Sunday, July 26th

amanda, cynthia — On Sunday I had a late brunch at Clinton Street Bakery with Amanda and Cynthia.

Buttermilk Biscuit Sandwich: scrambled eggs, melted cheddar, homemade tomato jam,with hash browns. OMG.

Not sure what Amanda got exactly but it looked awesome too.
