On Sunday, I watched a Norwegian gore movie called Dead Snow. All you need to know about this movie is included in its IMDB summary: "A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies." Haha.
...and so Sarah came over because she wanted to prick her finger and seal some of her blood into a resin-cast pendant! SO EMO! Here she is getting ready to prick her finger with one of those finger-prickers that diabetics use to draw blood to check their insulin!
When you get into the shallow water, it's very dangerous because there are huge waves rolling in off the open ocean and they can knock you off balance throw you into the huge, sharp coral-covered rocks in the bay!
..."Somebody who just had a REALLY SERIOUS aneurysm!" (Worst Halloween costume EVER, I know!) But we told people that they should come in a costume and I at least had to pretend like I put in some effort after asking everyone else to dress up!)
Which is exactly what happened to me! Our divemaster had warned us that the suction was so strong that if we accidentally got our fingers sucked into the mouth, that we wouldn't be able to get them out! He then explained that if this should happen, you should just relax and that after a few seconds, the stingray would realize our fingers were non-edible and would stop the suction and then you can get your fingers out.
This is exactly what happened to me! Except that when my finger got sucked in, I felt his grindplates grind on my finger, thought "HOLY FUCK! This one's got TEETH!" and then panicked and ripped my hand out of it's mouth as hard as I could! The cut you see on my hand is from where the suction pulled the skin right off my finger! Crazy, right?
On Saturday morning, Meredith and I went down to Chinatown to get our dim sum brunch on and we came across the remains of a (Chinese New Year?) parade.
So on my way up the mountain for the second time, I dumped my scooter! Boooooo! I was going around a hairpin-turn that was really steeply inclined and while I had my wheel cut to navigate the turn, my scooter started to stall. I overcompensated and revved my engine too hard and the bike shot out from under me sideways, dumping me on the pavement. Luckily, I was only going like 20mph and didn't get banged up too badly. Just ended up with some roadrash here...
...and here! Hahaha. The rest of the trip was pretty uneventful. Having had already seen Doi Suthep and photographed the shit out of it, I don't even think I took my camera out of my backpack!
His hand was bleeding so much that it was making the drumsticks slippery, something he remedied by periodically wiping his hand on his pants. Check out the "wipe spot" on his jeans after the show.
When Grant went up to get a round of drinks, the bartender accidentally smashed a glass and cut Grant's fingers (he probably heard G's Essex accent - they apparently don't go over well in "private clubs."). You'd think a little bloodshed would've earned us a break on the £10 drinks, but nooooooooo!
I wish I'd been better about documenting the number of injuries we all sustained while building. I was ripping out a nail that gave way and the back of my arm caught on a sharp edge of a knot in the wood in the doorway I was standing in.
