boardwalk

boardwalk
We have a tradition each year where we like to see how late in the year we can go to the beach.
boardwalk
boardwalk
boardwalk
Boardwalkless.
boardwalk
Where the boardwalk ends.
boardwalk
Shifted and opened like a zipper.

Boardwalk emoticon : /
boardwalk
Painting on the boardwalk.
boardwalk
JFK bound.
boardwalk
The cement supports are the only thing left. The boardwalk was all washed away here.
boardwalk
In the midst of the all the chaos, nice to see people still surfing.
boardwalk
#3 GO ROMNEY. OR NO USA
boardwalk
boardwalk
The entire boardwalk was washed away except where the light pole is screwed in. Similarly...
boardwalk
Absurd.
boardwalk
boardwalk
These guys were using calling cards to get in touch with relatives overseas.
boardwalk
...this section of destroyed boardwalk still contained a working payphone.
boardwalk
Carting sand back to the beach one wheelbarrow at a time.
boardwalk
Looking north.
boardwalk
...and then realized the entire boardwalk was gone.
boardwalk
Waiting for Hans & Ellen to park the car.
boardwalk
...watched the surfers for a bit and then we loaded up a car service car with all of our gear and headed back home to the East Village!
boardwalk
We took the hound for one last stroll down the boardwalk...
boardwalk
Later that afternoon, we hit the beach again. Parts of the boardwalk had been pretty badly damaged by the storm (but nothing compared with what Sandy would do 13 months later).
boardwalk
Before we had to the airport, I hit the beach to try to get some of the pre-Hurricane Irene waves that were starting to roll in.
boardwalk
...to the other!
boardwalk
We rode all the way from one end of the boardwalk...
boardwalk
...and then we rented bicycles!
boardwalk
Meredith had a terrible bike accident when she was a little kid and never really got around to getting back on one so we decided to give it a shot!
boardwalk
Get it!
boardwalk
After cleaning up my cut...
boardwalk
boardwalk
...and watched the surfers for a while.
boardwalk
We went up to the boardwalk, got Thai iced coffees...
boardwalk
Took the dog for a long walk near the beach. (No dogs allowed when there's people around)
boardwalk
Mer came out and met me later that afternoon.
boardwalk
Maddy loves the boardwalk.
boardwalk
The waves that day were the biggest we'd seen in weeks! After two hours we took a break to wander the boardwalk...
boardwalk
...and then drove over to Beach 67th.
boardwalk
Totally empty on a Friday!
boardwalk
Marcello & Meredith
boardwalk
Ah, Rockaway.
boardwalk
Solid day.
boardwalk
Hey, everyone: MOAR CONDOS!
boardwalk
Amanda, Katie and Siete.
boardwalk
Sunny Mer.
boardwalk
So glad you made it!
boardwalk
Heading out.
boardwalk
Walked back down the boardwalk to check out...
boardwalk
Line of people waiting to get their sandy feet sprayed clean by a hose-wielding parks department employee.
boardwalk
No better way I'd rather spend a Saturday.
boardwalk
Empty boardwalk.
boardwalk
Buds.
boardwalk
Empty boardwalk.
boardwalk
Boardwalk facing west.
boardwalk
The boardwalk east of 60th Street is closed off because they're going to re-do it!
boardwalk
We got slices on the boardwalk.
boardwalk
Too hot to eat so we let them cool in the breeze a bit.
boardwalk
We called Pauly and Lisa to meet up with them and found out that they were 30 blocks away. But it's always nice to walk the boardwalk, so we hoofer over to meet them.
boardwalk
We got off at our normal stop in Far Rockaway...
boardwalk
We headed back home around 4:30.
boardwalk
On Saturday, a whole bunch of us went back out to Far Rockaway for a beach day...
boardwalk
...but it started raining after we'd only been there for 30 minutes!
boardwalk
We tried waiting it out on the boardwalk...
boardwalk
Usually we go to the western, more deserted part of Rockaway Beach, but this time we went to the main beach so that Pauly could surf.
boardwalk
The lovely boardwalk.
boardwalk
After We Are Scientists finished, Posh and I hit the boardwalk...
boardwalk
...and, uh, inspect over-turned Snapple vending machines that have somehow ended up in the middle of the boardwalk.
boardwalk
Get out of there you little Snapple-ferret!
boardwalk
Beach hair! Beach hair!
boardwalk
Scott played the "use a baseball to break a bottle game" and won these "I just showed my tits" Mardi Gras beads. Suh-weet!
boardwalk
...THE SEASIDE HEIGHTS BOARDWALK! Awwwwww, yeah!
boardwalk
Jersey Beef in the house.
boardwalk
Damn girl, you's a one of a kind lady. Know what I'm saying?
boardwalk
And funnel cake.
boardwalk
Maybe I mispoke earlier. While inexpensive frosty beach beers are wonderful, you can probably find them at other beaches. But where else in the world will $5 enable you to shoot high-velocity paintball guns at a live human (trying his darnedest not to get hit) at a range of 25ft? Let's hear it for SHOOT THE FREAK!
boardwalk
Mah-mah-mobscene! I always swear I'm going to watch a few of the bands, but then it's always so hot and crowded that I instead opt to stand on the boardwalk and people-watch...
boardwalk
Like three years ago, Vice featured this guy as one of their fashion "Don'ts." (I'm not sure why, maybe it was the sandals?) Anyway, here he is three years later kicking it to two chicks. Hey, if it ain't broke...you know what I'm saying?
boardwalk
...we hit the boardwalk for some more greasy food (between the three of us we ate 3 corndogs, a jumbo Italian sausage, a shish kebab, an order of fries and a FUNNEL CAKE.) The only thing that hurt more than my stomach was my wallet.
boardwalk
Boardwalk railings. (artsy, right?)
