The September Roundup

Here are all the photos I took in September 2011 that didn't end up in their very own entry.

Thursday, September 1st

After our unscheduled drive back from Ohio for Steve and Rachel's wedding, we returned to our Rockaway Beach summer rental; which we were relieved to find relatively unscathed by Hurricane Irene.
me, meredith
We headed over to the beach to survey the damage...
...and to celebrate our second wedding anniversary! (We made it to three years, just barely!).
Ahhh, scenic Rockaway.
meredith
Beach was still pretty sweet, though.
Double rainbow around the cloudy sun along with a bullseye chemtrail er, contrail.
Nothing to see here. Just a totally normal sky! (This is probably just a totally normal -4 C variance that just happens to be shaped like our country, right?!)
maddy, meredith
Post-beach QT with the houndine.
Followed by a delicious empanada dinner...
...and make your own banana split sundae for dessert!
How about some Cinnamon Toast Crunch on top? WHAT?
Second to last book to finish before heading back to the library!

Friday, September 2nd

On Friday, our landlords had to work on our apartment, so we had to move over to the apartment across the hall for our last few days.
Change of scenery!
Slightly different view of the back garden.
Twenty hours later and I made to the last book in my stack!
Later that afternoon, we hit the beach again. Parts of the boardwalk had been pretty badly damaged by the storm (but nothing compared with what Sandy would do 13 months later).

Sunday, September 4th

me, meredith
Sunday was our last day out in Rockaway!
maddy, meredith
We took the hound for one last stroll down the boardwalk...
maddy
...watched the surfers for a bit and then we loaded up a car service car with all of our gear and headed back home to the East Village!
I couldn't fit my bike into the car, so I had to come all the way back out to pick it up...
...waiting for the train home!
ellen, maddy, matt, meredith, piper
Later that evening, Matt and Ellen came over to welcome us back home! Yay!
karen, me, meredith
We went out to a late night Thai dinner and were entertained by Karen's Jane's Addiction stories!
ellen, matt
And Ellen was telling us about how she was really excited for her second date with some guy named Hans (!!!) that she'd met at the dog park.

Monday, September 5th

Hmmmm...somehow this made more sense out in Rockaway. Did a whole bunch of Yipit work from my home office...
fran, jeet
...and then we went to Odessa to meet Fran & Gurj for lunch!
me, meredith
There's no place like home (like Odessa).

Tuesday, September 6th

On Tuesday afternoon I went into Yodle to meet with the Pictimonial team and noticed that something looked a little bit different...
...on the back-wall mural. Hahahah.
Walked back home in the rain to find my very first paycheck from Yipit made out to Flux Capacity LLC! I'm officially self-employed! Woooo!

Wednesday, September 7th

maddy, meredith
These two.
maddy
On Friday morning, Mer and I took Maddy on an early stroll to the dog park.
There was a dachshund-pitbull mix puppy that had a long wienery body and a GIANT pitbull head on top. Hahah.
Worked from home...
...and then got my home office all nice and organized!
Hey, look! My latest surf injury's scabbing up nicely. Ewwwwww.

Saturday, September 10th

Got up super early on Saturday and biked up to Flatiron...
...to attend my third weekend meditation class at the New York Shambhala center with Joe Mauricio.

Monday, September 12th

meredith
Healthy lunch with Mer and 7B and later in the evening...
nina
...we hung out with Nina who was in town from Wagon Mound, NM for NYC fashion week.
Omg, new flavors.

Tuesday, September 13th

Went to General Assembly to meet with Yipit in the morning...
maddy
...then hung out with my buddy and trash-picked records in the afternoon.

Wednesday, September 14th

The new camera I'd purchased didn't fit into my waterproof camera case...or at least it didn't UNTIL I Dremelled the shit out of it. Preparing for our trip jetskiing on the East River with Ty & Mer!
Either video games are getting less interesting, or I'm just getting too old for this shit. (*sigh*). Well, I guess I had a pretty good run.

Friday, September 16th

On Friday I went into Yipit to meet with the wonderful Two Toasters team and the equally awesome (and my favoritest designer in the world) Kristen Hengst Smith.

Saturday, September 17th

Woke up on Saturday to find Meredith doing some work on the couch with Maddy and Jagger at her feet.
Buds.
The clouds in the EV were...
....weird! I went out to Queens to meet Gurj for lunch and then we hopped on the 7 train to check out...
jeet, mandy o, meredith
Mandy, Mer and Gurj!
Maker Faire is for all kinds of people who are showing off their DIY gadgets and tech they use to make neato stuff. These are 3d printing machines that use spools of plastic...
...to print all kinds of stuff people designed with CAD software!
This 3d-printed chain mail was my favorite. It was so silky and pliable it felt just like fabric. So neat.
All-terrain skateboard!
Not sure what this was all about, but I'm sure it probably has something to do with Burning Man.
sarah
A little later in the afternoon, Sarah came out to join us. Tiniest astronaut!
A predecessor to the MOMA rain room (?), someone designed a swing set that was raining, but would open up a dry spot each time...
...just as you were about to get rained on.
ModKit's really neato drag-and-drop microcontroller programming language.
2001's Sashimi Tabernacle Choir! "Sporting over two hundred and fifty computer controlled lobsters, bass, trout, catfish and sharks, the Choir performs a repertoire ranging from pop tunes to classical opera."
jeet, mandy o, sarah
Subway ride home with these lovelies!

Sunday, September 18th

Homemade blueberry pancakes for breffis...
jagger, maddy
...and then we took Maddy and Jagger to the dog park.
Making new friends.
jagger
Hey, get me outta here!
jagger, meredith
You guys are great and all, BUT...any idea when my mom's coming back?

Tuesday, September 20th

davo, jared, jeet, jenny penny, karen, sarah, the ktb
On Tuesday evening, I went out to the West Village to celebrate Davo & The KTB visiting from London! I took this first photo...
...and someone else took this second photo that has 100% more me and 200% more sultriness from Davo.
Afterparty at Lucy's, woooo!
Late, late, late night!

Wednesday, September 21st

Wednesday afternoon hangover-recovery veggie chicken sammich....
...while I put together a proposal for Yipit on how to acquire more users through an integration with FourSquare's API.
ellen, maddy, meredith, piper
Ellen came over later that evening! We walked the dogs over to Sheen Brothers...
...scored some Schweddy Balls!
Had a delicious empanada dinner courtesy of The Dith...
...and watched Breaking Bad together!

Thursday, September 22nd

I didn't have any meetings on Thursday, so I spent the day catching up on errands. Headed to Continuum to get a new tire for my bike...
...and saw this sad mural for Nelson Perez who was killed in a motorcycle accident. (Every time I see one of these, I can't help but think about when we broke into Fatty's apartment so we could surprise him with a mural he didn't ask for.)
Meredith scored this sweet bike from her parent's basement (that briefly lived in our kitchen until she decided she wasn't going to ride it enough to keep it around).
Dinner with my buddy.
ORLY?

Friday, September 23rd

This ad-medium is great because at first you feel a little exploited when you notice it but then you get to make yourself feel better by pissing all over it.

Sunday, September 25th

Maddy like to nap in the orange chair.
Redic.

Monday, September 26th

Pizza rolls for dinner! Mmmmm.

Tuesday, September 27th

davide, me, tom g
On Tuesday night I went to the Delancey to meet up with Tom and Davide who were in town visiting from London!

Thursday, September 29th

Working lunch at the Hummus Place.
A critter visited our kitchen and had himself some rolls! NOM!

Friday, September 30th

In addition to the Foursquare integration, I had also been working with TwoToasters as the client-side product manager for Yipit's very first mobile app!
On Friday morning, the very first build was shipped and ready to test.
Counting down to an early December launch!
miye
Later that afternoon, I met up with Miye for Vietnamese sandwiches in the park. She stops and takes a photo...
miye
...every time she sees a banana peel on the sidewalk. Haha.
Later that evening I went to Jack Rabbit Sports to get a new pair of running shoes.
They have a neato high-speed camera that shows you slow-motion footage of how your foot-strike looks in each of the shoes! Happy September 2011!
