Met up with Grant at Odessa (RIP!) to give him the keys to the cabin so he could go up there for a few days. ...and Karen for a holiday weekend brunch at Big Daddy's. On Monday morning I met up with Matt, Kim... ...to grab dinner at one of the local diners. Met up with Vin for a big breakfast at Odessa on Friday morning. On Thursday morning we went to Odessa for breakfast before Brett, Amy and Max headed back to DC. After, we hit a nearby diner for lunch. Had myself an Odessa pancake breakfast! Stopped for a bite to eat at Mike's Diner. ...meet Grant for a bon voyage breakfast at Odessa. Grabbed a solid Friday Odessa lunch with Grant. (Back 2 back Odessa for the win!) Jane came over for a late night breakfast-foods dinner date! ...that understand about making ugly faces in photos when you're eating. On Tuesday Lizzy came over to my apartment and we spent the afternoon going through lots of my photos for a book she was working on about the NYC rock scene in the 00s. (The book, Meet Me in the Bathroom , was released in late 2017 and featured five of my photos!). Congrats, Lizzy! Kristy's Diner for dinner. Big O breakfash with Grant! And then met up with Grant at the Big O for a late lunch. Clean plate club! ...and then went to grab a giant breakfast at Odessa with Aki, who was in town visiting from Vancouver! On Saturday morning, my parents took me out to Denny's for a goodbye breakfast... ...with Grant! ...for a Wednesday afternoon lunch feast... Had a nice Odessa Saturday catch-up with Grant after spending Thanksgiving with my family in Hilton Head, SC Here is a photo of what I consider an excellent Sunday afternoon and just an all-around good way to end a month. Kristina was in town visiting so we pulled out all the stops and took her to Odessa! Had my an excellent Odessa dinner and read a book about Yeshe Tsogyal . ...how I'll be spending the next 50 years. (Odessa-willing!) On Friday morning I went over to meet Grant for breakfast for our weekly conversation centering mostly around WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT ? ...to one of the most all time COMFORT meals I've ever ordered. Got my Odessa on with Grant for lunch... ...to the BIG O for grilled cheese and two sides of veggies. Post-work lunch at Odessa on Wednesday. Grill cheese, french fry, spinach salad combo! On Saturday afternoon, Grant and I met up with the Doyle brothers for one last meal together at Bowery Diner before they left town. ...then we met up with Mike and his brother for drinks at Dudley's and then late night latke's at Odessa! Had myself a solo Odessa breakfast experience. (Yes, those are chocolate chip pancakes). Back in the East Village, we celebrated our afternoon wave-jumping triumphs with an Odessa feast! ...and Odessa every day! ...soothed our troubles with 1am diner-feast at Odessa. Late-night meeting of the self-employed club at our auxiliary office (The Bowery Diner). Later that afternoon, I met up with Ellen at we went to Bowery Diner (RIP!) for milkshakes. Met up with Grant to celebrate our Seinfeldian life at Odessa. On Friday afternoon, Grant arrived back in New York after spending the holidays with his family in England. The veggie burger at the Bowery Diner was sooooo good. Made of swiss chard & beets and topped with cheese and horseradish sauce. Fuuuuuuuuu) Stopped at Bowery Diner on the way home. Battjer boys like us some burgers and fries. ...headed over to Odessa for pancakes and mantalk. Celebrated my day off on Friday with breakfast-for-lunch. ...and DKNY! Milkshakes and a late night snack with Amanda... The next morning we had a breakfast at 7A before they hit the road. Happy birthday, Scott! ...which means they were well-rested for our late-night snacks! Two and a half hours into the drive, we stopped at a diner up 87. Meredith and I hid out from the 100+ degree heat at Odessa. ...headed over to Odessa for our traditional "welcome back to NY" breakfast. Our crew pretty much took over the porch. ...headed to the Donut Hole for lunch! ...for a nice light lunch. After getting settled in, we drove over to the Donut Hole... Mer and I stopped off and got ourselves a nice light dinner. Stopped at an IHOP for a quick bite on the drive up to my parents house. ...and chocolate chip pancakes! Mmmmm. Odessa brunch! Blueberry blintzes, blueberry muffins... Fork in the socket. Then later that afternoon I had lunch with Tyson who had to take a break to listen to mixes that he'd just been sent for his band's forthcoming record. There's no place like home (like Odessa). ...and then we went to Odessa to meet Fran & Gurj for lunch! ...middle of the night breakfast! Made it through five hours of driving before we were ready to call it a night! First some... Healthy late night snacks! At 2am, Meredith and I noticed the neon glow of a 24 hour diner from our room and decided to walk over... YOU'RE THE KIND OF PERSON WHO ORDERS PASTA AT A DINER! ...our food arrived before things went any further. A little later that afternoon, we went to the local diner around the corner. While we were waiting for our food to come, we played a game where the other person would make up a sentence... We escaped to a diner down the street for an afternoon breakfast during a lull in the rain. The portions were so ridiculous. I was kind of in the middle of an existential crisis and didn't know what to even do with myself. Gurj and Jared suggested we go for a drive and try to find a random place to eat. We ended up finding some awesome chromed-out diner in Benson Hurst... ...and ordered so much food. So granola. Grill cheese with waffle fries (also with cheese) and an order of potato pancakes to split with Pauly! Holy moly. Later that afternoon, we met up with Karen for Odessa brunch! ...and Jen met us there! My Odessa standard: two-eggs over easy with chocolate chip pancakes! This place is so delicious. They are famous for their... Then off to the Donut Hole for breakfast! Amy's sister Emily joined us and we ordered us a BREAKFAST FEAST! Check out the spread! ...Eastern European establishment. After one last glorious southern breakfast, we bid these two handsome gentlemen farewell... Oh yes. ...for some late night pierogies and milkshakes! Eeep! French toast and pancakes! Super-late that evening (3am!) we ended up at Odessa with KTB and Davo who had just recently arrived from London! On Saturday I had a lazy morning with Meredith and we enjoyed the last day in July with diner breakfast at Odessa! Our waitress carried all this over with one hand. (I mean, yeah it was all on a tray, but still) Table for 13 please!
