The October Roundup

Here are all the photos I took in October 2011 that didn't end up in their own entry!

Saturday, October 1st

On Saturday afternoon we went over to The Boxcar...
andy f, fatty, marina
...because Dave had planned a surprise birthday party for Marina! Who I caught here with a mouth full of...
...birthday cupcake! Haha. Marina told us that she asked Dave way too many questions about why they were going to a bar at 1pm and ruined the surprise. "There's no way he could hold up under that kind of pressure."

Make your own Bloody Mary fixins section!

Later that evening, we met up with Meredith's parents...
...and headed to the MOMA.
I love this era of design.
Such neat stuff...
...all made out of plywood!
Moving to the sixties.
Electric sitar!
The original sketch...
...that spawned the I heart NY logo!
These glass objects are prototypes designed by Susana Soares...
Then we went upstairs to check out TALK TO ME.
I really liked Doug Rickard's prints made from images captured by Google streetview.
chuck, meredith
Back at the Silverman house, we gifted Chuck some tequila...
chuck, meredith
...and then headed out to dinner to celebrate his birthday!
chuck, joann
Happy Birthday!
Later that evening, I watched John Carpenter's totally amazing THEY LIVE.
If you haven't seen it, you need to! It stars former WWF star Roddy Piper as a man who finds a special pair of sunglasses.
Without the sunglasses, everything looks normal.
But when he puts them on, he's able to see...
...a hidden reality!
All advertisements have subliminally hidden messages as well. This movie was the inspiration for a lot of Shepard Fairey's work
maddy
Egg dog.

Sunday, October 2nd

meredith
Low key start to our Sunday.
maddy
Hey, why's it getting so chilly? WTF?
me
Texting about Quantum Leap lunch!
East Village sky.
meredith
After lunch we stopped at a bakery to...
jeet
...score some cookies! I went to go see the movie 50/50 and Mer and Gurj went to Irving Plaza to visit Ellen at a Third Eye Blind DVD shoot. (No, seriously!)
leigh
Later that night, we watched a show on HBO called How to Make It In America because a little someone we know...
leigh
...had a brief cameo! Awwww!

Wednesday, October 5th

More and more of my days only...
...feature a few familiar things...
maddy
...and I am totally alright with that.

Thursday, October 6th

On Thursday evening, Tyson invited Mer and I to Bowery Ballroom to see Petty Fest!
james iha
James Iha & Nora Jones.
tyson
Tyson took the stage...
tyson
...and slayed American Girl.
With each song, more and more people got on stage.
posh tony
Will Forte & Posh Tony?
For the finale, EVERYONE was on stage!
The crowd was kind of Petty!
Great show.
gina bonjersey, meredith
Mer and Gina at the afterparty.

And a late night slice with Posh to close out the night!

Friday, October 7th

On Friday morning I worked from home on the Yipit 4SQ project...
maddy, me
...hung out with the grimple for a bit (and borrowed Meredith's glasses!).
tyson
Then later that afternoon I had lunch with Tyson who had to take a break to listen to mixes that he'd just been sent for his band's forthcoming record.
tyson
Fork in the socket.
East Village window peeping!

Tuesday, October 11th

siege
On Tuesday evening I met up with Clayton and we headed down to the financial district to check out...
...the third consecutive week of the Occupy Wall Street protest at Zucotti Park.
Despite being characterized by the mainstream media as a bunch of whining hippies, we saw a huge diversity of intelligent and clean people.
Live streaming video feed.
Well organized food supplies...
...and then even had a cooperative library!
It was really interesting to walk around and see such a diversity of things being protested.
Lots of police, but they for the most part seemed amused / interested.
Full-sized model of a Predator attack drone.
I came home to a delicious homemade Thai dinner courtesy of Mer...
kristi, stacy
...and then went out to Chelsea to grab drinks with my cousins Kristi & Stacy who came back and crashed at our place afterwards!

Wednesday, October 12th

maddy
Puh-thetic.
This is Maddy's favorite deli cat.
Awesome window decorations. Halloween is coming!
jared, jeet, quinn
Later that night, Mer and I went out to Brooklyn Bowl to meet up with these guys!
me, meredith
They were playing Dark Side of the Moon & The Wizard of Oz together on the movie screen.
Before bowling, we went to Blue Ribbon and got our feast on.
jared, jeet, quinn
Pretty nice little Wednesday.

Thursday, October 13th

On Thursday afternoon I went over to General Assembly to work with Yipit!
It was their last day before moving out of the workspace at General Assembly...
...and into a brand new office around the corner!

Sunday, October 16th

ellen, piper
On Sunday Ellen came over! Here she is enthusiastically cheering on Meredith's decision to try to be a...
meredith
...sexy fireman for Halloween. Hahahah.
ellen, meredith
Odessa brunch! Blueberry blintzes, blueberry muffins...
...and chocolate chip pancakes! Mmmmm.
maddy, me, meredith
Family portrait courtesy of Ellen! Later that night we all cuddled up on the couch...
...and watched a bunch of Breaking Bad on Netflix.

Monday, October 17th

On Monday I biked into Flatiron for my very first meeting with Yipit...
...at their brand new offices! Congrats on graduating out of General Assembly, guys!
After work, I spend the afternoon reading in the park!

Tuesday, October 18th

I thought it was The Onion at first.
More desks showing up at Yipit!
maddy
As Maddy's gotten older she's less interested in other dogs in the dog park and much more interested in chasing squirrels. We go now?
Veggie chicken, veggies...
...veggie pepperoni mini-pizzas...
...and a little Breaking Bad.

Thursday, October 20th

After a morning of working from home...
vin
...I met up with this guy and we got delicious spinach burritos at Puebla. So good.

Friday, October 21st

On Friday morning, I opened the door to my office and was hit in the face by a wall of steam! The radiator valve had somehow gotten turned and the tiny room was like being inside of a cloud.
Opened the window to let things air out...
...everything I had pinned to my corkboard was wet and wilted!

Sunday, October 23rd

Sunday was the second day of my fourth meditation weekend at the New York Shambhala Center. In all the other weekend classes I'd done, you spent all your time indoors...
...but this time they sent us out into the wild to practice walking meditation on the mean streets of New York.
I spent my time walking around Hudson River park.
As always, I couldn't help but snap a few pictures of the things I thought were beautiful...
...and interesting. Really neat plaster work...
...and gargoyles!

Monday, October 24th

me
Every time I see these in the store...
leigh
...I think of Leigh! Haha.

Wednesday, October 26th

meredith
On Wednesday mer got a new laptop...
...and I got a new videogame.
Ok, maybe I spoke too soon about not being that interested in videogames. Batman looking pretty good.
Homemade veggie-pepperoni bread for dinner...
...with a tasty salad!
caiti, jagger, maddy
Later that evening, Caiti and Jagger came over for a hang.
jagger
Jagger has his adult teeth AND his baby teeth! DOUBLE FANG!

Thursday, October 27th

On Thursday morning I sat down to test the ninth build of the Yipit app courtesy of the Two Toasters team. Getting closer!
Ninja sword as...
...secret door key. Pret-ty, pret-ty good.

Friday, October 28th

On Friday, I uninstalled our air conditioners...
...and then made some room in the kitchen by bringing Meredith's short-lived bike from her parent's basement over to Continuum Cycles.
Indian for dinner! I like to think I'm partially responsible for the continued escalation in the 1st Ave / 6th St "TWINKLE WARS!" There are always barkers on the street trying to steer you into their restaurant and I always explain my choice by saying "I'm going with the one that has THE MOST LIGHTS!"

Sunday, October 30th

ellen, hans, jeet, jenny penny, karen
After Saturday's big Halloween night out, on Sunday we went to Lillie's for a Spooky Brunch.
ellen, hans, jenny penny
Nobody takes a selfie like Jenny!
Pear & apple pancakes. Mmmm.
This Heimlich chart sorta skirts the rated-R line, no?
gay ˆ sign ˆ wtf
After brunch, I edited down the Halloween photos I'd taken the night before.
Empanada-fest for dinner!

Monday, October 31st

Ended the month with a pizza dinner...
grant, meredith
