Writing this caption in the spring of 2022 (!!!) and I still really miss Odessa. These days I have to walk an extra 2 avenues to Veselka if I want some Eastern European diner comfort food.
Had a double-entre late night victory feast from Odessa. A cheeseburger with onions & swiss and an entire container of penne vodka because WHY NOT? (Also, I think the chef added way too much actual vodka because I actually got DRUNK eating this pasta and I don't think that's supposed to happen??)
On Saturday, I was finally feeling better enough to leave the house and Grant took me out to Odessa breakfast to celebrate Yodle finally getting sold (after waiting for four nail-biting years!)
On Tuesday Lizzy came over to my apartment and we spent the afternoon going through lots of my photos for a book she was working on about the NYC rock scene in the 00s. (The book, Meet Me in the Bathroom, was released in late 2017 and featured five of my photos!). Congrats, Lizzy!
Here is a photo of what I consider an excellent Sunday afternoon and just an all-around good way to end a month. Get up and walk to the diner and have your favorite pancakes and read Larry Livermore's punk rock memoir about living in a cabin in the woods four hours north of San Francisco and starting Lookout Records. Spy Rock Memories by Larry Livermore
Then later that afternoon I had lunch with Tyson who had to take a break to listen to mixes that he'd just been sent for his band's forthcoming record.
Afterwards, I rode my bike all the way back downtown in the freezing cold and met up with Lisa and Pauly at Niagra. We had a couple of drinks and then decided to hit Odessa for some late night grub.
On Friday night we went out with Lisa and Pauly and had drinks at Odessa. (By the way, Pauly was leaning on his hand in this picture and trying to look "leisurely." He's most definitely NOT mocking Asians - I swear!)
We hope the large tip we left and all the booby flashes provided by our womenfolk helped make up for our state that evening. We'll try not to let it happen ever again for at least a couple of months.
Love,
Lisa Michelle, Pauly, Meredith, Iva and Brian.
On Wednesday night I got treated to waffles and ice cream by a college journalism student named Edwina who wanted to interview me about this site! Who says blogging doesn't get you things?
On Saturday morning, we all got up bright and early and hit the Odessa Dinner for some brunch. Clockwise from left: Tom and David from Apartment, Kim, Meredith, Niki and the Fatty. (By the way, check out the brains on the Fatty reading Richard Dawkins a full two years before he became a household name!).
