The June Roundup

Here are all the photos I took in June 2012 that didn't end up in their own entry.

Sunday, June 3rd

grant
After the drive back from Sarah & Ben's wedding in New Hampshire, Grant cooked dinner for us! He was halfway through staying with us for a month while searching for a new NYC apartment and so we were treated to meals in exchange for board.
Freshly-baked orange-almond cookies for crumbling on top of a...
...arugula & beet salad with blue cheese and a reduced-balsamic dressing. Soooo good.

Monday, June 4th

maddy, meredith
On Monday morning Ryan dropped off an Edie with us. Double weinerage!
grant, meredith
Monday evening hang. Watching documentaries.
Money is a weapon but the world is catching on.

Wednesday, June 6th

Finished this guy.
Picked this one up again.

Thursday, June 7th

amanda, cynthia, katie, meredith, siege
On Thursday evening, a bunch of us got together to see...
...Moonrise Kingdom.

Friday, June 8th

dad, grandma, mom
On Friday we headed down to south Jersey to visit my family.
brett, meredith
Mer and Brett enjoying the grass.
My mom goes all out to support our vegetarianism. Haha.

Saturday, June 9th

Borrowed my mom's library book. This was the first thing that I'd read by the Dalai Lama. Loved it.
Later that evening, we drove through the twilight just a few miles down to the street to...
..see a bunch of bluegrass music at Albert Music Hall
The hall is run by The Pinelands Cultural & Historical Preservation Society and is always crowded on a Saturday night.
Saturday night line up.
Apparently Feech La Manna traveled back in time to prevent 1950s New Jersey from being overrun by wolves.
The stage is designed to look like a porch!
Overseen!

Sunday, June 10th

dad, grandma, meredith, mom, teddy
830am view of the family.
grandma, mom
Mom & Grandma waving us farewell as we headed off to catch the...
...2pm bus back to NYC where our nearby seatmate demonstrated some serious home-brewed innovations in iPad glare-reduction!
ellen, grant, meredith
That evening Ellen came over to join us for the Mad Men season finale and Grant's puttanesca pasta with garlic bread and salad.
Mmmmmm.

Monday, June 11th

grant, meredith
On Monday night after dinner...
me
...I was trying different kinds of niacin (experimenting to see which kinds increased my ability to remember dreams!) and the new kind I'd just purchased made my face immediately swell up and get all puffy.
ouch ˆ me
me
I took an antihistamine and about thirty minutes later I'd almost returned to normal.
ouch ˆ me
My favorite Lincoln in the neighborhood.

Wednesday, June 13th

maddy, me
Meredith captured a little bit of my post morning-walk cuddle time with the grimple.
Later that afternoon I went to the Chrysler Building building for the very first time to meet with a new client who has offices there.

Thursday, June 14th

Had a morning meeting with a client near Grand Central...
grant
...then met up with this guy to catch the...
...free ferry that runs from southern Manhattan...
...over to the new Ikea in Red Hook. Grant was shopping to furnish his new apartment in Soho.
What's a trip to Ikea without sampling the exotic Swedish delicacies in the cafeteria. C'mon, don't pretend you're also not interested in finding out what Elderflower juice tastes like!
I was in the home office up late editing photos and I heard Maddy all kinds of strange honking noises. I figured she was throwing one of her toys around like she sometimes does. I came out fifteen minutes later to get some water and found her happily wagging her tail and chewing on an unfamiliar toy, which, upon further examination, turned out to be a mouse that had foolishly dared to run through a Maddy-patrolled hallway. She was so proud of her catch.

Friday, June 15th

East Village sky.
ellen, maddy, meredith
Ellen came over on Friday evening.
maddy, piper
Maddy and Piper chased each other around.
me, meredith
New game! Who can hold a coin with their face the longest!
me, meredith
Even when you win, you lose. (Incidentally, the face I'm making here is the same one I made each year when the elementary school photographer told me to "smile" for my class photo. Haha).
bet ˆ coins ˆ wtf ˆ me ˆ meredith
maddy
Judging us so hard
ellen, maddy, meredith
I'm alway asking Meredith to walk or kneel on muscle knots in my back and over the years she's gotten real good at it. Ellen had a sore mid-back and so Mer went to work.
ellen, maddy, meredith
Maddy flopped down next to Ellen to coach her through the burn.
Veggie sushi and treats!
siege
After dinner, Clayton came over and we went for a night bike ride...
siege
...all the way down East River Park.
The bridges are lovely at night.
siege
New wheel lights.

Sunday, June 17th

Grant moved out on Sunday morning. I was excited to have my home office back and work on my creative outlets like this website...
...and other important things like this sketch for a Halloween "cape" that hides a sneaky disguise on the inside. The wearer can squat down, reach their arms behind and pull the cape apart to reveal a hidden disguise secreted away inside that allows them to pull a garbage bag around and over themselves transforming the wearer into what looks like a giant Hefty bag filled with trash! Then when someone walks by, you can jump up and scream "I'M NOT TRASH!" Urban ghillie suit!

Monday, June 18th

Ordered two new Flashflights. If you want to play frisbee at night, get one of these. They are the best! (And at 185g, really fun to huck).
Stopped to snap a little bike porn while I was out running errands.
Milk crate.
Wings in the sky.
Dragon or phoenix?

Thursday, June 21st

meredith
Meredith and I hid out from the 100+ degree heat at Odessa.
My change included a dollar with a message. Proverbs 3:7 - Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
Four times a year, the sunset lines up with Manhattan's grid.

Friday, June 22nd

piper
On Friday morning Ellen dropped off Piper with us so we could look after her for the next week and a half.
Later that evening I headed over to 27th Street all the way over on the west side in the pouring rain.
chris a, me
Met up with this guy...
aki, grant
...and Aki and Grant to check out Sleep No More at the McKittrick Hotel.
If you're in NYC, this is worth doing. Enough said.
aki, grant
And like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capped towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself - Yea, all which it inherit - shall dissolve, And like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep.

Saturday, June 23th

Woke up early the next morning to go white water rafting and found my pockets filled with strange souvenirs from...
...our amazing evening at Sleep No More.

Sunday, June 24th

Office wall boards.
I dropped my main camera so had to dip into a pile of my old cameras...
...to see if I could tinker one into working order.
me
Selfie test-shot success!

Monday, June 25th

On Monday afternoon, I went up to midtown...
...and spent the afternoon working with a client.
Decorative window on the way home.

Tuesday, June 26th

Hey, you seen my mom?
Enjoyed watching this guy paint at the dog park.

Wednesday, June 27th

Woke up early on Wednesday morning to perfect weather and headed out to Brooklyn to meet up with...
caiti, cynthia, meredith
...Cynthia and celebrate her birthday at the beach (instead of at the zoo).
Pretty butterfly.
caiti, craig, cynthia, meredith
We picked up Craig and made it out to Jacob Riis before 1130!
cynthia, me
Happy birthday, Cynthia!
There was a guy fishing from the shore and he hooked a good-sized sea robin.
The bark like dogs when they're out of the water. Look at his gorgeous fin.
caiti, cynthia
He ended up drawing a crowd. Haha.
meredith
Sandyblanket Silverman
caiti, cynthia
Cynthia & Caiti
caiti, craig, cynthia, meredith
Before heading home...
...we stopped for some ice cream.
Hard to tell from this photo, but in-person you can see the Manhattan skyline from Rockaway.
cynthia
Perfect day for a drive.
Took the backroads home.
Hardly any traffic on a Wednesday.
This! I'll bet male-attendance at this church has dramatically increased since the jerk BBQ restaurant opened next door.
caiti, meredith
Cynthia dropped us off at Broadway Junction and we took the subway the rest of the way home.
Later that evening I went to Shambhala to attend a class.
fatty, grant
Met up with these guys late night for a drink and a slice!

Thursday, June 28th

fatty, maddy
Fatty crashed at our place and got to cuddle with Maddy.
Went up to a fancy midtown building to meet with a new client.
Noticed a church with an interesting decagram window on the walk home.
Neato.

Friday, June 29th

Weird lung cancer awareness campaign they ran in my neighborhood.
amanda, caiti, cynthia, katie, katie d, siege
Later that evening I met up with Caiti and we went over to Cynthia's for a birthday taco party!

For dessert, we had assorted birthday donuts from the Donut Plant.
OMFG.
Cab ride home with Amanda.

Saturday, June 30th

On Saturday, I resigned our lease for another year and dropped it off in the mail. Woo.
maddy
Honkfest.
Later that evening, I went to the Sunshine to see Bernie. (Richard Linklater is one of my favorite directors!)
Admired my neighbor's new storefront window on the walk home. Happy June, 2012!
