ten minutes before noon, when we're supposed to check out, we finally get up to get our stuff packed. we may not be adults who have all other aspects of our life sorted out, but we are well-versed in the ways of quick-packing and light-footed gypsy travel. the room is empty in minutes and the volvo is loaded up. john cracks a second beer and packs a little marijuana pipe while sitting in the front passenger seat with the door open.

car
an older local couple of mainers strolls past looking at us with poker-faced curiosity. i wonder if she can smell john's mary jane and wonder if what she thinks of it if she can. she catches me watching her and i give her a big genuine smile. she has won me over with her new england poker face. she sees my smile is genuine and smiles back. i see her husband notice my smile peripherally but he doesn't turn his eyes or head to investigate further. not out of unfriendliness, more of a no-nonsense hurry to get to the motel office to get some kind of thing squared away.

One of my fave cars in the hood. 73 Toyota still looks brand new!

Not only is Grant the kind of friend that drives to the airport at midnight to pick you up, unfurl a flag and feed you Canadian donuts, he also stocks the car with exoctic local delicacies like ketchup-flavored potato chips!
car
All tuckered out from the heat!
car
While walking Maddy, I stopped to gawk at the charred remains of a 3-car fire that had happened on the block the previous night.
car
The Volvo was on fire so severely that it managed to burn the back and front of the two cars parked nearest before the fire department got it under control.
car
You are not alone.

When I awoke the next morning, all the water had receded, but the neighborhood was a mess. The apartment was without heat, electricity and cell-phone service! That afternoon, I biked over to to Chelsea on the west-side to find a cell signal. I managed to get in touch with Meredith...
car
This is the last pic I snapped before bundling up with Maddy (no power = no heat!) and going to sleep.

What am I up to? Oh, you know. Just hanging out on the hood of a white Monte Carlo...

Check out the interior! They totally did it up right.

PS - I love how Back to the Future came out so long ago that they used the alternative pronounciation of the work gigawatt - you know, the one that has a hard "j" and sounds like "jigga-watt" (which is, incidentally, the unit of measure for power at Jay-Z's house) because computers weren't really around then and what few ones were around had only like 16k of memory. (Giga means 109).

Since either pronounciation is correct, it's surprising to me that the one popularized in BTTF didn't catch on. WTF?
car
Hey, Grant! This one's for you!
car
My dad picked me up at the train station and we went to the Ledgewood Mall to pick some things up. When we got to the mall, there was some sort of car show going on!

So fricking cool.

I think my favorite was this slammed Cadillac.

There were some pretty bad-ass cars.

The entire mall was filled with all sorts of cool antique or souped-up cars.

Later that night Faisal took us to a nearby mall (check out his parking job - this is totally standard there)...
car
We got to Faisal's house around 2am. Upon arriving...
car
After saying our goodbyes, we piled into Faisal's car a little after midnight...
car
And since you're trying to "be seen," why not roll up to the mall in your orange, costs-a-quarter-million-dollars Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera?
car
...which turned out to be a MINI REFRIGERATOR! Whaaaat?
car
Faisal's car was totally over the top. It had all sorts of features I didn't even know you could get in cars. Like behind the fold-down armrest in the backseat was this little door...
car
...and were picked up by Fatty's little brother, Andy. (aka - "Little Fatty"). And what is the reason for this Tuesday night pilgrimage to the fine, south shore of Long Island?
car
Senior Josh was kind enough to offer to drive us all home.
car
Same goes for Dave except that he's a lighter sleeper and woke up when I leaned in for this photo.
car
Kent was sleepy from too many ribs and took a lil' nappy-nap on the way home.
car
After the movie, I went over to MisShapes and ended up staying crazy late. Afterwards, I was walking with Jackson to get into someone's car to catch a ride to the afterparty, and we noticed that one of the cars parked on the street was rocking. Upon closer examination, it was revealed that the rocking was being caused by two people fucking in the backseat! I crept up to the car and busted out my camera with the intent to take a sneaky photo of them, but I forgot to turn my flash off and when I took this photo, we all had to run like hell because my flash totally alerted the fuckees in the car to the fact that I had just snapped this pic of them fucking! Whoopsie!
car
Hahahah. Check out the fucking size of those things! They were like 14" by 4 1/2 feet!
car
On Thursday night I went to some party with Nina. We left and when we were walking up the Bowery, we saw the hands-down most ridiculous "club flyers" that were left on all the car windshields.
car
...on an undertaker's car parked outside of a funeral home! How fucking awesome is that? Hey, if you gotta deal with dead people all day, you might as well have a sense of humor about it, right?

On Tuesday night I took the train out to NJ to hang out with my parents and spend some time with my Aunt Barb (my mom's sister) and my Uncle Tom (my dad's college roommate!) who were in town visiting from New Mexico. On Wednesday we piled into the car and took a trip to...
