The July Roundup

Here are all the photos I took in July 2012 that didn't end up in their own entry.

Sunday, July 1st

maddy, piper
Lazy sunday! Was going to head out to the beach, but ended up hanging around the neighborhood with these three halfwits.
dogs ˆ edie ˆ maddy ˆ piper
Later that evening, Meredith and I walked down the street...

Later, we went to see Locksley.
They put on a great live show and do all kinds of fun things...
...like play each others guitars without taking them off.
kai
Haha. So good.

Monday, July 2nd

me
As a consultant, I get to see lots of different work spaces. I always enjoy the kinds of conflicts that come from different companies sharing bathrooms.
"No bowl protective sheets, commonly referred to as 'nests.' "
After work, I packed Edie up in a bag...
...and Leigh picked us up in a rental van and we headed over to the west side to drop it off.
Twilight skyline.
We made fresh juice...
...and feasted on pancake-flavored Kit-Kats that she'd just brought back from a trip. (Rilakkuma = Relax Bear!)
...spent a bunch of hours on the interwebs trying to identify her new house plant...

Tuesday, July 3rd

I spent Tuesday afternoon at GLG's offices asking questions about a new product they were developing.
In order to internalize and process lots of information given to me quickly, I end up making all sorts of weird drawings of how things are connected and interrelated in my mind.
This is what it looks like when you make a left-handed person think about business stuff. Haha.
amanda, ellen, grant, hans, meredith
Later that evening, Mer and I went out to Brooklyn for dinner to celebrate...
catrinel, sarah h
...Catrinel's birthday!
amanda, grant, hans, meredith
Huge Italian feast.

Happy birthday, Cat!

Hans & Ellen helmeting to depart via Hans' Vespa. (And Piper!)

So good.

Wednesday, July 4th

Had the laziest 4th of July ever. Maddy spooned my leg all afternoon...
Walking the hound.
Bought weird black-colored water that had fulvic acid in it.

Thursday, July 5th

Spotted the crazy gothic rooftop of the GE Building coming back from a client on Thursday.
50 storeys tall, completed in 1931.
Wild.
Beautiful clouds over the East Village.
Strange brushstrokes.

Saturday, July 7th

On Saturday Maddy and I went uptown...
maddy
...to hang out with these two.
maddy
Why does she always do this?

Thursday, July 12th

Had the apt to myself on Thursday morning.

Spent the morning stretching and preparing for a kickoff meeting with a client.

Heavenly hood-light.

Neighborhood detritus: cult track & an empty can of Ensure.

Sunday, July 15th

On Sunday Mer and I went to see Jiro Dreams of Sushi...
meredith
...and then got lunch at Quantum Leap. Mmmm.
On the walk home we stopped off at PlantWorks and I bought my very first plant.
A very handsome Dracaena marginata (dragon tree).
amanda, caiti, grant, meredith
Grant, Amanda & Cait came over in the evening so we could all watch the Breaking Bad premiere together.
Guacamole is my favorite.

Monday, July 16th

The new plant makes the living room so much friendlier!

Thursday, July 19th

Getting ready to bike over to a client. My mobile office in its entirety.

Friday, July 20th

This is my favorite lunch in the whole world.

Saturday, July 21st

Pickup flatbed as political stage complete with...
obama
...creepy Obama mannequin in the driver's seat.

Sunday, July 22nd

chuck, joann, meredith
On Sunday afternoon, Mer and I went up to her parent's for lunch.
Ice cream cake for dessert.
I spent Sunday evening going through boxes of old stuff and taking pictures of some stuff that I decided to get rid of. Like this notebook filled with my high school art class drawings!
Freddy Mercury?
Some creepy kid in a graveyard?
This is a drawing of a photo I took for my high school photography class.
I remember drawing this after a short story that I read.
Jen Perkins, May 23, 1994!
In addition to getting rid of a bunch of notebooks, I also decided to get rid of some boxes from college. Found my presentation for Carla Lloyd's 1997 advertising class.
My group had to make a case for how Fresca should spend money on outdoor advertising.
We created a whole golf & tennis themed presentation. I learned Illustrator making a logo and designing these....
...fake golf score cards that contained the members of our group...
...along with a summary of why outdoor advertising is such a great medium. Haha.
This was cutting edge graphic design in 1997. Our teacher was blown away.
carla lloyd
We even invited her to our presentation via a custom website (build by yours truly).
This is what I thought made a good nav experience in 1997.
I also found a very thick presentation for my media-planning class.
It was chock-full of graphs...
...and pictures of cars that I lifted off of Saturn's website.
It also included 30 pages of output from some archaic media-planning software that is total gibberish to me now but had something to do with buying tv spots in the late nineties.
books
Filled up a few boxes of books. Here are some books I really enjoyed but probably won't ever read again.
I finally decided to part with a bunch of really awesome guitar tab books. The internet wasn't as good back in 1992 so I had to supplement my free time by learning how to play every Metallica song.
I was really interested in learning how in the world people could get such different sounds out of the same instrument. John Frusciante.
Somewhere in Time was the very first CD I ever purchased!
amanda, meredith
Later that night, Amanda came over...
...to watch Breaking Bad with us.

Monday, July 23rd

maddy, meredith
Meredith learning how to do photo retouching with Maddy on her lap.
I like to wear things until they are totally worn out.
Then I get the same exact thing! This pair lasted me 9 years before the sole finally gave out.
If it ain't broken...
ellen, maddy, piper
Snoozing snooches and patterned pants.

Tuesday, July 24th

david k, grant
On Tuesday evening, I biked over to Soho to meet up with David and Grant...
...who were enjoying a friend's amazing outdoor patio.
We got bahn mi sandwiches and chatted in the park.
Twilight over the Tompkins dog run.

Wednesday, July 25th

On Wednesday I rented Zipcar and took Leigh out to the beach for an early birthday celebration. Best place to get morning bagels.
Perfect day to drive with the top down.
leigh
Birthday = candy for lunch.
Hardly anyone around.
leigh
We returned from a swim to find we'd gotten a new neighbor, who from our vantage point, seemed to be completely naked. Leigh tiptoed in for a closer look.
Going for it.
leigh, me
Happy birthday, Leigh!
me
Polaroid portraits.
leigh
Renting cars by the hour is genius.
Later that evening, a whole bunch of us headed over to Sing Sing karaoke...
matt
...at the request of Matt's then girlfriend Jenny. Matt had just gotten back in town after a long tour and she had organized a surprise party for him.
janice, meredith
Janice and Meredith helping with party favors.
Cupcakes and party horns.

Walked home with a belly full of pizza.

Thursday, July 26th

On Thursday I went to a client that has office space in Marc Ecko's building.
Crazy mural when you enter. "The mural, designed by Ecko, puts visitors on the red carpet being photographed by paparazzi as they enter the front door." (source)
Came home and had a read and a snooze...
...before heading over to west side...
leigh
...for a very late night birthday dinner!
alex d, ryan m
Ryan & Alex.
leigh, ryan m
Happy birthday, Leigh!

Friday, July 27th

builds
On Friday I was taking a picture of the sun over a building.
Suddenly, I noticed something flying across the sky very quickly. 14 seconds later, I took another photo trying to capture the object.
Here's a close-up of whatever it was.

Monday, July 30th

Beet & goat cheese salad lunch.
grant, siege
Later that evening we went to Siege and Katie's...

...for a late night screening...
...of JAWS.

Tuesday, July 31st

Work lunch at Westville East where you can get SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS.
Later that evening I headed out to Queens to meet up with Meredith and see...
jared, jeet
...Gurj and Jared's brand new apartment! Congrats on the move, guys!
Headed home.

Hi, Mac. Thanks for checking in on me! ;) Had a very nice and relaxing holiday break (some of which I used to work on new diary entries!). I hope you like them. All the best, Brian.
