One of the window displays had "ironic" 80s metal looks. Holy shit, getting old is weird.

metal
I finally decided to part with a bunch of really awesome guitar tab books. The internet wasn't as good back in 1992 so I had to supplement my free time by learning how to play every Metallica song.
metal
I was really interested in learning how in the world people could get such different sounds out of the same instrument. John Frusciante.
metal
Somewhere in Time was the very first CD I ever purchased!
metal
...if you're not going to lean into each other's backs and rock in time to the music together during that pivotal moment in the (Whitesnake) song.
metal
Why even bother being in a band with your brother....
metal
Here's a close up!
metal
...Fatty play bass in...
metal
Hahaha.
metal
The crowd was feeling it.
metal
Cynthia and me.
metal
Melissa and Amy cutting it up.
metal
Yes!

I love everything about this photo

I think that's the face I make when I sing GnR.
metal
Couch-hug for the birthday girl!
metal
This picture is great in so many different ways. My favorite part about this picture is looking at Cynthia and Amanda and realizing that they totally remind me of...

...Vin and Josh from pretty much every photo I have of them in college. Here's a pic of Vin and Josh from 1998 for comparison's sake.
metal
Emily's boyfriend (now husband!) Tim loved him some rum and fired up Guitar Hero! Wooooo!
metal
SHA-BOOM! Bonus points for somehow also managing to throw up metal horns whist simultaneously releasing the ball, Posh. Nicely done.
metal
Dude, you gotta love the Fatty! Check him out here doing the old "I will shoot you with METAL!" move that he probably saw Billy Sheehan do in a Mr. Big DVD box set that he probably totally owns. Hahaha. SOOO GOOD!
metal
Here's Scott and Amanda getting ready to have their faces LIFTED!
metal
Maya (showing off her former-gymnast skills) and Mark!
metal
Late Friday night I walked down to Hanger Bar to catch the exciting tail end of the Stolen Transmission party! Karen was on the decks tearing it up!
metal
Vivian ended up with a Nerf Crossbow.
metal
Adrian Smith air solo!
metal
I left work a little early on Tuesday to head to Penn Station. I met up with Fatty and Kip and we hopped on a LIRR train...
metal
Jenny Penny: Still partying at 6am.
metal
...METAL FACES in like .05 seconds!
metal
...the dude's got MOOOVES.
metal
Siege got Blanche Barton's The Church of Satan!
metal
...and Satanism / Mötley Crüe. Hahahah. (We would've outnumbered Team: Jew but Katie was out in Minnesota spending the holidays with her family).
metal
That's when we found this gem! Fatty's driver's license from the late, hair-metal 80s. This is back when he was in a band called, and I swear I'm not making this up, Nasty Magic!!!
metal
Scott Ian from Anthrax!!! First Emilie's boyfriend turns out to be in NIN, and then I end up at a party with Scott Ian??? It's like all the wishes I made back in 1987 finally came true! (Now if I could only get a handjob from Samantha Foxx....)
metal
Mike and Ethan!
metal
Hahaha. We were all sooooo exicted!
metal
It totally looks JUST LIKE FATTY! I got a call from Grant and I was like "You need to come here RIGHT NOW and see this!"
metal
Well, Vin took my feedback and pretty much nailed it on his second sketch. Hahahahaha. BINGO! I think we have a winner!
metal
Close the blinds. I think the sun is coming up.
metal
And on Thursday, Sarah and I rode somewhere in a cab. That is all!
metal
Josh (aka - the only other non-Jew in the room) and Sar.
metal
Turns out the Devil doesn't ALWAYS wear Prada.
metal
Karen and Sarah showing off their bootwear.
metal
So after several emails back and forth, we all finally got to meet big Nick S. who'd been reading my site for a few years. Upon first meeting the Fatty he even had the audacity to give Fatty the "get a load of this guy" face. Hahaha.
metal
Monday was equally eventful: Late night karaoke drive-by where I ran into long-time-no-see Alyssa...
metal
Mike D. knows.
metal
...and Michael. Oh, and we also ran into...
metal
Monkey-lips Cmielewski.
metal
San Francisco definitely has a leg-up on NYC when it comes to the non-ironic appreciation of metal. There are waaaaay too many people in NYC that wear 80s metal shirts because they think it's funny or kitschy - but in SF you would only wear a Slayer shirt if you thought that Slayer FUCKING RULZ (which they do).
metal
Towards the end of the night, Amy got all hardcore and declared that she was going to finish the bottle of Stoli that was on the table. Hey look, you're almost at the, er, bottom.
metal
Me and Marissa, keeping the situation under control.
metal
Close-up. (How sweet is that KISS rock lettering?)
metal
Fatty showing off the silver sparkle t-shirt I had custom made for him.
metal
Oh, so I forgot to mention. On the walk over to Sarah's, I ran into my friend Emily on the street who pointed out David Lee Roth's new two-storey apartment to me. I won't give away his exact address, but suffice it to say, one of the floors has a prominent balcony that overlooks a heavily foot-trafficked area of the Lower East Side). Anyway, she told me that according to rumor, DLR was having a huge Fourth of July party on his balcony. When I relayed this info to Grant and the Fatty, we all decided that we had no choice: we had to round up a group and attempt to crash it.
metal
Kusum posing with my famous disappearing chin (that shit's like magic, ain't it?).
metal
Awwww, who's my little honey bunny?
metal
Lizzy Ironheart. (Hahaha. Bonus points to Grant for pointing at her iron heart necklace.)
metal
Fatty half-heartedly rocked out in the backseat...
metal
Fatty and Big Daddy.
metal
Later that night at Lit, I ran into Lola who proudly displayed the marks from a fist fight she'd gotten in with another girl earlier on in the day at one of her kickball league's (yes, I"m serious) games. She then went on to bust out a camcorder and replay the fight (which one of her friends had managed to capture) in it's entirety.
metal
On Monday I went to karaoke at Crash Mansion (that name still makes me shudder every time I say it. Ugh, so bad) and ran into Jay Madrick! Jay was the drummer in Wellspring, which you may remember as the short-lived band that we were in with Josh Teixeira back in college!
metal
For reals, yo.
metal
Here we are at Fatty's apartment in the morning. After he was done showing us the wall-hooks he'd bought from Guitar Center to hang up his guitars...
metal
Then, somehow, we all ended up getting really, really drunk.
metal
While Grant kept it real and opted to marvel at the "special edition" fluorescent pink, snakeskin-patterned BC Rich Warlock. fluorescent pink snakeskin??? What kind of asshole would want that?
metal
Siege.
metal
TITTY!
metal
...really into karaoke. Here's Emma on Seth's shoulders.
metal
Emma (pulling her patented "drunk face") me and the Fatty in the background.
metal
...TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART!
metal
Buddy and Sid.
metal
Matt (aka - Buddy) and dances with a friend of Alexis and Alexis.
metal
Vin and Allison with Chris Rubino! Thanks for having us Chris!

He's the Fatty: on a steel horse he rides...

Later that evening, I got a call from Laura Sosin (aka "Special Sos") who you might remember from the last time I went out to visit LA. We agreed to meet up at a party that the LA Weekly was throwing to celebrate their 25th Anniversary. Here's Sos with two friends who names I've since forgotten. (Sorry, as soon as I talk to Laura I'll come back and fill them in!)
metal
A short while later, fellow Roxbury High School alumnus Bev Chase and Christina Alessi showed up to represent NJ (Chris' band, Hey Tiger, had just finished playing a show over at the Mercury Lounge)
metal
Here's Jesse telling his two Karaoke Santas that he wants the fucking ROKK for Christmas this year.
metal
Haase, while Grant and the Fatty do their best impersonations of the shaved headed wunderkind. HA ha ha ha.

How did Megadeth manage to never write a song about this?
metal
It's a good thing that none of us picked up that young honey. As the sign to the ancient palace states: No sluts! No rocking out! (Boooooo!)
metal
What we really wanted to see was the labyrinth, a torture chamber or even an honest-to-goodness Minotaur. (half-man half bull)

Biiiiiiig guuuuuuuuy on a liiiiiiiiiitle biiiiiiiiike!
metal
At this point not only were we ridiculously over tired, we were drunk taboot. We pleaded for Charlene to take us home and put us to bed.
metal
Chris and me. (Oh yeah, and this is an ACDC concert so prepare yourself to see nothing but tongues and "metal horns" in the rest of these pics. Sorry, I don't make the rules, I just follow them).
metal
Metal!
metal
Hans, me and Fatty. Hahahaha. Soooooo good.
metal
After the concert, we headed upstairs to the afterparty and used the Triptych of metal to magically summon...
metal
Charlene called her friend Layla (who works for the company that promotes Carling Beer)...
metal
We met these two as we were leaving. They were in town from England and when they heard that we were getting ready to take a trip there, they became our new best friends. The guy in the scarf was so drunk that we're actually holding him up in this pic.

And special crotch-grabbing rock-star appearance by Sarah Lewitinn!
metal
Jamie, Jen and Emily. Real quick, y'all should know that I met Jamie and Jen because of this site! (Jamie googled a former co-worker of his and found pic of her on this site - after he read through it, he found pictures of Laurie Choi! So emailed me and was like "You don't know me, but we have friends in common and we should hang out! PS - I'm not gay!")
metal
Back out on the dancefloor I found none other than Josh Barash, a college friend and former Crackhouse resident, cutting rug with the ladies.

When Candy and Sarah started all dirty dancing and pointing the fan at themselves (to achieve that true "lesbians in a Whitesnake rock video" effect), I knew it was time to call it a night (before I lost my tiny mind). Happy Birthday, Sarah and Herman! Woooooooo!

Buddy and Sid (still clothed at this point) manning the karaoke station.
metal
I was trying to take a video of us rocking out but took a picture instead and managed to capture us in the midst of some pretty serious MetalFaces (check out Fatty pretending to play kit in the background with his DrummerFAce in full effect. Hahaha).
metal
Let's see...fifteen boxes divided by three guys = *BURP*
metal
And wings! Wings! I told you!
