After squaring that away, we decided to spend the day exploring Manila around our hotel. Manila is not a pedestrian-friendly city so his was advanced-level stuff! We walked down Roxas Blvd to...
The show was a little corny, but it's also really fun and the horse-riding skills were impressive. I have to say it was way more fun than I had imagined at the onset. (I'll bet this place is doing SO MUCH more business since Game of Thrones started airing.)
On Friday night I went over to Sarah's for dinner and I brought along the "Pasture Pals" Christmas present that Meredith had picked out for Ellen. Look at that smile! Can you tell how much she liked it?
I'd been living in NYC for almost five years and this was only the second time I'd ever managed to make it to the Met (which is embarrassingly criminal). The "arms and armor" display there is one of the craziest things I've ever seen in a museum.
I call this photo "Shadowrider." (But when you say it's title, please say it in a hushed whisper or you won't get the full-effect of its truly amazing 8th-grade Art-ness.)
So remember how I said these weren't no pussy horses? As soon as we got them on the open trail, they all started galloping. That's right: not a trot, not a canter, a full-on fucking gallop. Holy shit, I almost did something in my pants that would've put Dashiell to shame. Here's a pic Grant managed to take of me right as we all finally managed to slow them down.
Grant and the Fatty on theirs. Now, one thing to keep in mind - the horses we were riding weren't wimpy petting zoo horses that have been ridden by hundreds of people. These horses were broken, but don't get ridden all that often - and when they do get ridden, they're ridden by real cowboys who know how to handle them. So in the beginning, we each had to spend quite a bit of time with our horses pretending like we knew how to act like we were in charge.
Horses are pretty fucking scary if you're not used to being around them. My only experience with horses up until then had been in enclosed spaces. When these horses (that were grazing in an open field) saw us step across the hoof guard thingy into their field, all four of them came galloping over to us full speed. I was looking at Fatty like "Should we run?" In the end we realized that they were just excited to see new people, but it was still kind of unsettling having an animal that big excited to see you.
We were planning on riding horses the next day so Fatty and I decided to walk over and try to make friends with some of the guys that we might end up riding.
