Spencer was there! I hadn't seen him in years. It was nice to catch up. Chatting with him I learned that the ad-hoc naked shoot he did at a party in my apartment back in 2003 led to a whole series of photos at parties! Neato!

The seats that Matt got were totally sick! We were like 10 rows back from the stage! The lights went down and (a totally unannounced!) David Bowie came out in a tuxedo and introduced Ricky by singing the "pathetic little fat man" song from Extras. (I love how you can still somehow totally tell this is a picture of David Bowie even though it's totally blurry).

Besides Herman, there were even some "real" famous people there. You know you've made it in the karaoke world when Horatio Sanz, Jimmy Fallon, and Dennis Haskins (aka - "Mr. Belding" from Saved By The Bell) team up to sing as a trio at your birthday party!

On Friday morning I went to look at more apartments. The first place I saw was on 2nd St and was in the building that Timothy Greenfield-Sanders owns. I didn't know who he was at the time, but I was carrying my camera and when he was showing me the apartment (you can see him standing there in to doorway in this photo), he asked "Oh, are you a photographer?" I was like, "Yeah, but I'm more of a hobbyist." He was like "Well, I'm a photographer. Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, maybe you've heard of me?" Somehow I managed to keep a straight face and I was like "Actually, no I'm sorry, I haven't. Should I have?" He then went on to tell me about all the portraits he's shot of famous people and actually said the very unintentionally Will Ferrelesque "I'm kind of a really famous photographer." I was like "Oooooo-kay, doh-kay! So how about you show me the apartment?"
sorta famous
By the way, someone made this and hung it up on our fridge and I just now (yes, "now" as in eighteen months later while captioning this entry) just got the joke. He's in 3-D, but he's also in apartment 3D!

In the kitchen at work, I found myself in awe of Michael Moritz's soup. He's the partner on Google's board. (Why in awe? Well, if you go here, you'll see he owns 23,893,800 shares of Google stock. And if you figure that presently, GOOG is trading at $289.71 per share that means his share in the company is worth, ummmm, about $6.92 Billion).

Speaking of pimping, this lady was walking around the party and people kept coming up to her and kissing her ass. After watching her run shit for like 20 minutes, I finally couldn't take the expense. I walked up to her and told her that I loved her outfit and asked if I could take a pic. She was like "But of course!" Afterwards, I was like, I hope this doesn't offend you, but who are you? She was like "Not at all, darling. I am Zelda. I'm a fashion designer." Does anyone out there know who this lady is? Or did someone's grandma get into some extra fabric and use it to escape a nearby nursing home?

Walking home from an uneventful Monday night out, I stopped by Bowery Ballroom (2 blocks from my house) to check out the roster list of upcoming shows. When I got there I realized that Ted Leo and the Pharmacists were playing that night! Not only were there tix available, Ted was going on in 15 minutes. I walked in, caught a rad show, and ran into Ric Ocasek on the way out! Holy shit, Just what I needed! (ba-dum-dum-CHA! Thank you. I'll be here all week! Try the meatloaf. And remember, please tip your waitress.)

So, with the party jumping, Andrew Einhorn, Spencer Tunick and I were ready to put our scheming minds into action. Spencer is an artist famous for getting thousands of people to get naked and lie down in public spaces. (Homeboy even had a fancy documentary called Naked States made about him. Ta-dow!)

At some point earlier in the night I asked Spencer (thinking I'd all shock him and shit), "If I can get a bunch of people to get naked, will you do one of your installations in my room?" Without missing a beat, Spence pulled a stack of postcards with his work on them and said "Hand these out and tell everyone that participates that they'll get a print of the shot. We'll shoot at midnight."

Look! Sometimes there's even the occasional celebrity. That's Peter Reigert (he played "Boon" in Animal House, remember), up on stage to sing "Shout." (He was there because it was the wrap-party for a movie he'd just finished directing. Beverly D'Angelo [aka - Ellen Griswold *swoon*] was in the movie too and I was hoping that I'd get to dedicate a karaoke jam just for her, but she was a no-show. Bah.)

We were standing at the back of the party, looking to see if we kind find anyone who could trump the excitement of Doogie and we see Keanu Reeves was sitting at a table all by himself. So I went over, said hi to him, started chatting him up telling him how much I loved him in "Point Break" (too bad you think I'm kidding) and then I asked if he'd mind having his pic taken. He said "No, not at all."

Just as he stood up pose with Vicki, his publicist (that blonde lady you see in the background) rushed over out of nowhere and is like "No! No photos. Sit down Keanu!" She then sorta pushed him back down to the table he'd been sitting at, dragged a chair over, and sat in front of him, guarding him. Which was really awkward because Keanu was now sitting all alone at the table, with this lady sitting in front of him with her back to him so she could glare at us. Which made us feel bad. We didn't mean to get Keanu in trouble!

So we just sorta hung out in the area and a few minutes later as the evil publicist lady was trying to usher him out of the party, he snuck over, apologized, and said "Quick, she's not looking! Take the pic!" (So Keanu, if you read this, thanks. Oh, and evil publicist-lady, if you read this, you can eat a bowl o' dicks! Cause we got the pic! Boo-yah!)

We prowled the crowd on the hunt for some serious celeb action. And lookie who we saw milling around - that's right, it's Neil Patrick Harris (aka - Doogie Howser, M.D.)! Booyah!

Me to Vicki and Sarah: "Quick! Pretend like I'm taking a picture of you two so we can get Doogie in the background." I think he overheard the word "Doogie" because he started moving around trying to get out of the way. But we got you Doogie. Oh, yes. We got you.
