The May Roundup

Here are all the photos I took in May 2010 that didn't end up in their own entry.

Saturday, May 1st

On Saturday morning we walked over to Life Cafe for breakfast. We saw the Dead Apple Tours hearse go by. Haha.
meredith
Meredith was pretty excited about her fruit-covered pancakes.
I went with huevos and we did splitsies.

Monday, May 3rd

Monday after work I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond and bought new bed-linens and window blinds for our new apt!

Wednesday, May 5th

arm
On Wednesday I went to an allergist because my allergies were going bonkers. They stab you in the arm and inject tiny amounts of 30 or so substances under your skin.
arm
They write numbers next to each one. Then you sit there and wait 20 minutes. Whatever numbers swell up and get red and itchy are the things you are allergic to. Scientific!

Saturday, May 8th

On Saturday we finally felt settled into our new place enough to invite people over for a little Saturday night boardgame get-together.

Sunday, May 9th

I spent Sunday installing the new window blinds we'd purchased for the apt! No more late-night peeping for you, new neighbors!

Monday, May 10th

On Monday night I was walking back to the apartment and I heard a band wailing inside of Banjo Jim's so I went inside to check them out.
The band was called Izzy & The Kesstronics.
They were great.

Tuesday, May 11th

Earlier in the week, we received a nasty anonymous note (lame!) from one of our new neighbors complaining that Maddy was barking while we were away. After doing some research, we decided to try one of the "no bark" collars that gives dogs a small static-electricity shock when they bark.
maddy, meredith
Aw, tiny little future-prisoner!
maddy, meredith
(Before putting it on our tiny dog, we both took turns wearing it and barking to make sure it wasn't too inhumane. Verdict: Not pleasant, but definitely not terrible). It took Maddy all of two barks to figure out what the collar was there to prevent.

...then we walked downtown to Grand Street.
meredith
That's not a gimp-hand, it's Meredith's hand-sign for...
....DONUTS! Standing in line to get freshly-made donuts at the Donut Factory! (Bonus points for the Andy Samberg hair in front of us in line).
meredith
We sat on nearby park bench and enjoyed our still-warm donuts in the spring sunshine.
Mango glazed. Whoa.
Peanut butter glazed with jelly filling.
I was trying to take a photo of just my donut when this guy rolled up. Haha.

On Monday night I went to meet Gurj and Fran, who was in town from London, for a few karaoke jams on Orchard.
fran, jeet
They had just recently opened and hadn't gotten their permit to sell alcohol yet. Which explained why were the only people in the place. Haha.

Saturday, May 22nd

On Saturday we went and bought some new furniture. We spend the rest of the afternoon, unpacking and making room for it to be delivered!
maddy
Ol' Blue Eye.
The park across the street from our apartment has an amphitheater!
I stumbled upon this dress rehearsal while out walking Maddy and stopped to watch for a while.
maddy
On Saturday, I unpacked the boxes in our bedroom that were blocking in my favorite green chair, and Maddy took the opportunity to turn it into a makeshift bed.
maddy
Adorable.

Sunday, May 23rd

Our living room after the new furniture was delivered. Here's our new orange chair, rug, coffee table and couch! I also posted an ad to sell the beige fold-out bed on Craigslist because our new place is much smaller and we don't have room for it!

I pulled this (woodblock?) print from a garbage can near a print studio in 1998. Time to take a photo and let it go!

Tuesday, May 25th

On Tuesday morning I attended the TechCruch Disrupt conference on Yodle's behalf.
Different start-ups showed demos of their products to the conference attendees.
Audience members voted on companies by downloading an app that gave them "virtual shares" in each company. Game participants were encouraged to buy or sell shares of the stock based on how good of a product each company had. The price of each company's shares were projected in real time so you could see how each new company's presentation affected the value of the preceding companies!
MakerBot is awesome. It's a three-dimension printer that allows you to design things in auto-cad (or download other peoples designs) and then the MakerBot PRINTS out the thing. In twenty years (assuming we make it) some people

On Saturday we were dogsitting Amber's dog, Charlie. Ellen came over to add Piper to the dog mix.

Sunday, May 30th

A glance out our living window on Sunday morning revealed a big street fair in the process of setting up on Ave C.
Ah, spring.
I had never seen what shish kabob meat looks like before it's cooked well...
...turns out it looks like a rack of pink wigs for sale. Ew! Haha.
I hung out with Charlie the dog for a bit...
meredith
...while Meredith made and packed a bunch of sandwiches...
...and then we walked up to the Oval in Stuytown...

I wandered around by myself admiring the lush green emptiness of a deserted Tompkins Square at night!

Monday, May 31st

Monday was a little cloudy and overcast. In the afternoon we went over to Matt's apartment to hang out on his roof.
meredith
Bad monkey.
Later that night I met up with Miye, Kristen and Max on their awesome little roof deck on Bleecker.
kristen t, miye
We were talking about funny stuff we did when we were in high school and "make me faint" came up. Haha. Here's Kristen getting ready to try to make Max faint. Step 1: Lean over and hyperventilate for 60 seconds.
kristen t
Step 2: Take a deep breath and hold it.
kristen t
Step 3: While holding your breath, stand up and fall back into the person behind. The person behind you will pick you up and squeeze you and for some reason, this will usually instantly make you lose consciousness.
Step 4: MOLEST THE FAINTED! Happy May 2010!
