On Saturday morning Meredith and I woke up super early so that we could carpool up to Maine to spend the three-day Memorial weekend at our friends' James & Gretchen's wedding!
On Saturday's in August they close a bunch of Manhattan streets to cars so that everyone can ride bikes everywhere! It's called Summer Streets and it's awesome!
Yodle's old offices were located on 39th St and 8th Ave. On Tuesday afternoon I was headed back to the office after lunch and I noticed a certain familiar someone on the giant GAP billboard that they'd recently put up...
I took this picture for Lisa because of something she told me that makes me laugh every time I think about it. She told me that when she's walking home at night in Manhattan and there's some big steam pipe coming up out of the street and it's billowing steam everywhere she feels like New York is trying way too hard to be "New Yorky." And she's disgusted by it.
"Ugh, alright, New York. I get it, ok? You're New York." Haha.
Yodle's old offices were on 8th Ave and 40th Street and one side of our office windows faced the New York Times Building. We were working in the late afternoon when the relative quiet was disturbed by all sorts of sirens. We looked outside and saw a huge crowd and a bunch of fire and police vehicles gathering at the base of the building.
Turns out that these were plates from the buffet at the MSG after party. Jenny had taken a whole bunch of food from the buffet, put it between two glass plates, wrapped it in a napkin and put it in her purse. But the napkin had come undone...
After we'd showered and stowed our gear, Mohamed and Hosam decided to take me out on the town to celebrate my new certification. Right before we were about to head out, we ran into one of the Japanese diving instructors who was experiencing some intense shoulder pain. Turns out he had been a little careless with his surface interval times after a couple deep dives and was experiencing the early symptoms of decompression sickness (The Bends!). We ended up having to drive him to the hospital to the nearest decompression tank! Scary! (A couple hours in the tank, and he was fine though).
The restaurant I was eating in had a balcony that overlooked the street and while I was sitting there eating my kofta, a bunch of dudes rode by on camels!
...so that we could lay back and lounge on the sidewalks. The cool, steel embrace of a curbside, overturned grocery cart. It's what's SO HOT right now.
After filling our gullets with treats and booze, someone realized that we were just a few short blocks away from Winnie's! Which is the best karaoke bar in Chinatown (where all the songs are still on LASER DISC)! Check out the rocking troupe we had. Hahaha.
We drove around for an hour exploring the city and eventually ended up at the biggest mall in Phuket. Here's the view of the street from the window of a coffee shop in the mall where we...
Rachel and Grant were trying to get close to the hydrant, but the pressure was so great neither of them managed to within 20 feet before being knocked over or pushed back.
After eating some delicious giant pineapple, I dedided to do something I'd never done before: explore my neighborhood during a week-day. Here is a random photo of my block.
See the arcs of pee? On the way home, I was peeing against the wall and Vin started fucking with me so I started swinging my body to the side trying to pee on him.
On Sunday and Monday, New York got like 2 feet of snow. (This picture sorta sucks because you can't really tell how deep the snow is, but trust me, it was a lot).
For those of you who don't live here, Crazy Pomodoro Guy is our loving nickname for a guy named Jack. He stands right outside our office on the corner of Broadway and Spring all day holding a sign that advertises Pomodoro Pizza. He fucking rules.
