The August Roundup: Part Two

Here are all the photos I took in the second half of August that didn't end up in their own entry. T-minus 10 days until our wedding! Back to August Roundup: Part One

Thursday, August 20th

leigh — On Thursday night Leigh busted out the documentary I'd gotten for her a few weeks earlier for her birthday...

...Wildwood, NJ! It's an hour-long documentary shot on super-8 in Wildwood in 1994. (We both spent our younger years in the 609!). Definitely worth watching. You can buy the DVD here on Ruthless Films site!

leigh — Leigh had to get all gussied up for some party.

Edie got a new bed and it's like a padded little dog box. I love her right-angle back! Aw.

leigh — Ready?

We went to some party on the top floor of the hotel on Rivington. The northern view from the roof deck is really beautiful.

leigh — Little smuggler strikes again!

Saturday, August 22nd

meredith — On Saturday (T-minus 8 days until we leave to get married!) Meredith went shopping with her mom and picked out her wedding dress! (Holy moly!)

meredith — Later that afternoon we went to Alphabet Cafe (formerly known as DyNASTY!) for brunch. Their black-bean quesadilla is the jam.

meredith — Then we were down in Chinatown. I stop to gawk at the crabs in the tanks EVERY SINGLE time I'm in Chinatown. I can't believe there are people out there who hate spiders but have no problem EATING one of these. You're basically boiling a giant SEA SPIDER and then cracking open it's EXOSKELETON to eat it's crawmeat! WHAT?

meredith — Ooh la la! Gussied up! Later that night we went to...

...the Tribecca Grand. This band played!

leigh, lisa, meredith — Mer, Lisa, and Leigh.

tribecc — Then later on in the night The Drums played downstairs. (Thank you, highly visible kick drum!)

jenny penny — I made my way all the way through the crowd to say to a girl who turned out NOT to be Jenny Penny!

jenny penny, me — Only to run into the real McCoy moments later.

meredith, omri — Robe-in on up.

me, pauly — That guy on the right had no idea about our boners.

leigh, lisa — Time to go!

leigh — Shake!

leigh — Haha.

The pizzeria that's open at 4am is not usually the place that you'd get pizza from at any other hour. But man oh man is it awesome when you're drunk.

leigh — Hahah.

meredith — Nap time with a buddy.

Sunday, August 23rd

meredith — We dog-napped Edie!

When you can't decide, get all three.

maddy, meredith — Dogs couch-battling and honking at each other.

maddy, meredith — Thai feast for lunch!

Someone named Liam was having a birthday party at one of the Stuytown rooms and he had awesome balloons that spelled his name blowing around in the wind.

maddy — Dog park.

leigh, scott m — Scott and Leigh and over later that night.

maddy, meredith, scott m — If you are enjoying a snack...

maddy, scott m — ...Maddy is an excellent lap dog. Haha.

Monday, August 24th

I spent Monday night writing captions for the Nerve Party and Karaoke Times Two entry. (On my screen you can see the interface for the content management system that I wrote to publish this site!)

Thursday, August 27th

meredith — T-minus 3-days until our wedding! Check out that, uh, tan! Meredith doesn't like to wear suntan lotion (and I nag her like a grandma about it).

maddy — Not chewing wire or shoe. Just bone.

meredith — Our neighbor Mama Zandi gave us a case of wine as a wedding present!

lisa, maddy — Later that night Lisa and Pauly came over.

candy, pauly — Pauly came bearing Canadian treats!

candy — YES!

lisa, meredith — The girls got gussied up to go dancing.

meredith — Holy crap, I'm marrying a babe.

lisa, me, meredith, pauly — Haha.

meredith — We went to B-east.

lisa, mossimo — MAIN MAN.

lisa, meredith, pauly — Double fist hoist.

The lighting at that place was awesome.

They light fixtures looked like they were from BioShock.

It's hard to see a light like this and not start dancing.

lisa, meredith — Yup.

geordon — The music helped too. ;)

Headed home.

lisa, pauly — Haha. Cab ride flex down!

meredith — There was a street cart RIGHT next to our building. How can you not get a falafel?

meredith — All dressed up.

Friday, August 28th

meredith — On Friday we got ready to run more errands. (T-minus 2 days until we leave to get married!)

maddy, meredith — Meredith went out to walk Maddy and I went to get the laundry. Whenever we get split up and then reunited, Maddy FREAKS out. YOU'RE HERE!

Oh yes, we did. (The funny things about waiting two years until you post photos is that you're usually in a totally different place. We're getting ready to celebrate our two year anniversary and I can't believe hard were partying and how much shitty pizza we were eating! Haha)

I like to put things off until the very last minute and with only one shopping day before we had to catch our flight, it was time to pick out my "getting married" clothes. (Can you tell we agreed to have a "no-pressure" wedding policy?) I bought a nice new fancy Italian shirt ($200 is the most I've ever spent on a single article of clothing!) and an awesome new tie.

The tie I picked out is like the mullet of ties. Business in the front, party in the back.

If you look carefully you can make out the edge of my party peeking out from behind the formal black veneer.

me, meredith — You're getting married to THIS GUY!

Later Friday evening we put this very fancy snack arrangement out because...

amanda, erika, meredith, scott — ...Erika and Scott took the train in from NJ to visit! Amanda came over and met up with us and we all headed out in the drizzling rain...

...and went to some Japanese bar in Flatiron for a night of Karaoke Killed the Cat karaoke with the one and only...

goldteeth — ...MC Chris Goldteeth!

erika, scott — Scott and Erika.

amanda, candy, me, meredith — We ran into Candy at karaoke! We didn't end up staying all that much longer because the place didn't really have a sound system, er, or a place to really even sing karaoke.

amanda, erika, meredith — So we ended up heading back down town to the Sly Fox where we secured one of the big booths in the back!

me, scott — Scott and me.

amanda, erika — Erika and Amanda.

me, meredith — Joining the married club shortly!

amanda, erika, meredith, scott — Walking home! Thanks for coming into town to visit guys! We had a great time.

Saturday, August 29th

meredith — T-minus 1-day before leaving to get married! We spent our last day in New York running all sorts of last minute errands for our trip. We cleaned the rat cage and made sure they had lots of fresh bedding.

mitzi — Mitzi coming out to say hi. (Fatty agreed to come to our apartment and feed and water the rats while we were away. Thanks!)

Oh man, it's crazy to think that before I had an e-book reader THIS is what I used to have to try to fit into my luggage. (I like to read when I'm traveling!). Happy August, 2009. See you after we're married!

609 native, really? And Leigh too? I remember your uncle was a Medford guy but didn't know this about you or Leigh. Please let us 609ers know which 609 towns you left to become big city people?

  Yes, 609 natives really! Leigh grew up in Toms River. I spent my formative years in Ocean Township (moved up north after 4th grade). My great-great-grandfather left NYC in 1907 after 30 years and bought a farm in Wayside, NJ (on Bowne Road!).
