The August Roundup: Part One

Here are the first half of the photos I took in August that didn't end up in their own entry

Sunday, August 2nd

Went to get treats on Sunday morning and saw a rainy accident on Ave B & 14th.

Someone brought TWO boxes of donuts over for Sunday Family TV night!

Friday, August 7th

meredith — Flowers for my lady.

meredith — AND mini pizza bits. It's just how I do.

At midnight it was officially my 33rd birthday and therefor time to open presents!

Grinder! (Not the app! I swear!)

I saved the two biggest boxes for last. The first turned out to be a rice cooker. Hey, what kind of birthday present is this?

And a fancy coffee maker? What? I was confused. After Meredith was done chuckling at my confusion, she explained that these weren't birthday presents for me, they were WEDDING PRESENTS off of our registry.

maddy, me, meredith — Me and Mer. Thanks for all the presents, lady! Look at Maddy gazing up at Meredith with total adoration. I love how she's squeezed herself in between us.

maddy — It's her favorite place to be.

maddy — WAKE UP! Hahaha.

Sunday, August 9th

maddy, meredith — I spent Sunday recovering from my 33rd birthday party. Oof.

After dinner, I opened Ellen's birthday presents. Circular saw pizza cutter!

maddy, meredith — Doug getting ready to head up to Boston to stay with his sister for a while.

He gave me a last-minute birthday present before departing....

Omg, putting this thing on was like torture. It was pulling my hair so hard.

doug, me — I laughed so hard I was crying. Thumbs up for BALD SKINHEAD WIG! Awesome present, Doug!

pauly, pizza the dog — Pauly came over for Family Night later on and Meredith gave him a gift...

Monday, August 10th

My dentist is also the RAMONES DENTIST! (Should that be taken as an endorsement or a warning?)

maddy, meredith — It's really hard to train your dascshund to stay out of the bed when your bed is 5" off the ground.

maddy, meredith — It's also hard to take pictures of these two sleeping. Hahaha.

Thursday, August 13th

The account managers at Yodle broke into teams that all have awesome names and posters like Clicky Business here. Haha.

dad, meredith, mom — Thursday evening my parents came into town for dinner.

dad, maddy — Afterwards, they came back to our apt to say hi to the critter.

maddy, meredith — Haha.

After seeing my parents off, I biked over to Union Square to meet up with Fatty to see the midnight release of District 9.

fatty — The line went all the way down the block and AROUND the corner. Doh!

leigh — After the movie I met up with Leigh. She was carrying a chair into the living room and totally got stuck in the doorway, Three-Stooges-Style! Haha.

leigh — Somehow, the chair backwards looked like some weird pregnancy trainer.

freddie, justin, ryan m — Haha.

Friday, August 14th

meredith — Shrimpy's "shrimp wearing a Hawaiian shirt and fedora" mascot is really realy creepy.

mandy o, meredith — On Friday night Mer and I headed over to the Sly Fox to meet up with Mandy...

me, pauly — ...and then Pauly came and joined us!

meredith — Afterwards, we went and got soft serve ice cream. Meredith made friends with the dog Pauly was dog-sitting.

Saturday, August 15th

On Saturday morning, we took Maddy uptown to the animal hospital and dropped her off to get fixed. We took the dachshund painted on the doorway as a good omen.

meredith — After getting back to our (lonely!) apartment sans puppy, we packed up a beach bag...

meredith, pauly — ...met up with Pauly and took the A train out to....

geordon, meredith, pauly — ...Far Rockaway Beach 60th Street!

mandy — ...and Mandy and her friend came out too!

geordon — We met Geordon out there...

mandy — Perfect beach day!

me, meredith — Mer and me.

geordon, me, meredith, pauly — Around 6pm we decided to pack it in for the day.

geordon — After a nice relaxing post-beach shower and nap, Geordon and Leigh invited us to a party they were doing at the Tribecca Grand. Check out Geordon double-lapping (that's double-fisting for plates) with two plates of fish skewers. Hahah

This band was playing in the main room.

Sunday, August 16th

leigh — Ooooh, Edie in trouble! Whenever Edie's been REALLY bad, she gets the ultimate punishment: picked up in her skin suit!

Dana painted a portrait of Edie and Edie got her very own portrait t-shirt!

maddy, meredith — Walking home in the afternoon I ran into Meredith and Maddy!

ellen, mandy — Later that night, Ellen, Mandy...

amanda, meredith — ...and Amanda came over to hang.

maddy, me — Awww. Look at her little bologna tongue! I was saying goodbye to Maddy because I had to attend an off-site for Yodle up in West Chester super-early the next morning. Ellen invited me to crash at her place because she lives right near there! Yay!

amanda, ellen, mandy — Babes.

Monday, August 17th

8am Monday in Ellen's fancy kitchen!

Ellen lives right near the Hudson River north of the city and rents this awesome old house. Check out the rad porch.

Ellen was commuting into NYC by train so she even let me borrow her car!

The off-site was at this beautiful estate in Tarrytown.

This is the pool that I didn't get to swim in because I was in brainstorming and strategic planning meetings all day! Boo!

At least Mr. Sketch was there.

By the time we were done with dinner and drinks, it was almost 10:30!

ellen, me — I said my farewell, and left Tarrytown to head back to Ellen's house....

katie h — ...and hung out with Ellen's roommates, Kaitie and Danielle.

ellen, piper — Piper trying her hardest to walk through the long, shag carpet. Haha.

danielle s — Danielle is Ellen and Kaitie's other roommate! She lives downstairs from them in the semi-separate basement apartment and is REALLY REALLY into tanning products. Seriously. This entire shelf is dedicated to really expensive creams that you're supposed to rub on your body to enhance the tan that you get while laying in a TANNING BED. WTF?

I asked Danielle which product was her favorite and she handed me this one: Designer Skin Black 20X Mega Magical Silicone Bronzing Body Silk (duh!). (It retails for more than $100! WHAT?)

Sometimes you get a glimpse into a crazy sub-culture that you've never heard of that has a ton of gear and products and culture and you're just like WHAT? SERIOUSLY? After we'd finished grilling Danielle about her tanning/lotion-collection obsession, we all started asking her questions about her past and where she grew up.

This led to Danielle busting out her photo album and telling us all about where she grew up (Montana, maybe?) and the kind of things that she was into before she got into tanning...

danielle s — ...things like motocross! (Yes, that's a picture of Danielle).

danielle s — Oh, and she was also really into HUNTING FUCKING BEARS ON ATVs! HAHAHA. Holy fucking shit, I wish you could've seen Ellen's face when she first saw this photo and tried to wrap her mind around the fact that it's high-school Danielle proudly standing in front of a dead bear laying across the ATV she used to go hunting. WHAT?

ellen, katie h — Ellen was so sad for the bear. Awwww.

Tuesday, August 18th

Tuesday, 7:45am. Day two of our off-site.

We finished the second day around 4:30 in the afternoon. Leaving Tarrytown.

I had some time to kill before Ellen or her roommates came home so I wandered around the trails that go through the woods behind their home. Crazy tree.

I was walking down the narrow stone staircase that's cut into the hill that descends to Ellen's house and I almost walked face first right into THIS orb-weaver. Ooof! Look at his spiky legs. He was the size of a quarter, easily!

danielle s — Later that night, Danielle and Ellen drove me to the train station so I could catch the train back to NYC. Before heading over to the platform...

...we ordered some delicious food at a nearby restaurant and ate outside and enjoyed the summer weather.

ellen, me — Thanks so much for letting me crash at your place, Ellen! Love you!
