While riding the subway home, I spotted Marion in an ad on the subway! We were good friends in college and she appears in the very first I Keep A Diary entry EVER...Halloween 1996! Nice to see you, Marion! <3

On Wednesday I took the subway out to the beach at Coney Island.

Love the Grand Central commemorative subway cards! The light coming through the windows matched the light in my smoky, incense-filled apartment.

As soon as we got back into town, we picked up our hound and then got on the subway to head back to our Rockaway Beach rental for a few more days.
subway
I picked up my bike and we headed back out to Rockaway on the subway.
subway
While waiting for the subway to arrive, we spied upon the tracks the remnants of what looked like, an interesting night, to say the least.
subway
Then I met up with Jared and we took the subway out to Beach 90.

Haha. Mostly-empty subway car means that you can do things like try out your beach chair on the subway.
subway
Just because they're beach treats doesn't mean I have to wait until the beach.
subway
...but then their eyes would snap open and we'd all have to pretend that we weren't just taking sneaky sleepy photos! BUSTED! Hahaha.
subway
On the subway ride home Gurj and Christina were so tired that their leeetle eyes kept closing and I kept trying to take sneaky pics of them dozing off...

On my commute to work on Wednesday morning, I caught a glimpse of this woman's awesome sweater from a distance and wove my way through the crowd just like the football player knit into the back in order to get close enough to get a clear photo. So good.

On Sunday Casey, Sarah, Meredith, Mandy and me all met up on the A train
subway
Scott was wearing little soccer shorts with no lining which meant that on the way back he kept unknowingly subjecting horrified subway passengers to epicly sweet peek-a-boo ball shots like these.

I was trying to take a sneaky photo so I could just email it to him later that night, but we all started laughing hysterically and he figured out what we were up to. (Also: A guy who reads this site was in the subway car with us and recognized us as we laughed about trying to take sneaky pics of our friend's bean bag! Hahaha).
subway
Hahaha. The subway was underground for a long time so when it finally came back up to the surface, the ladies abandoned their reading materials to text on their Sidekicks! Ha! (I was going to say that they were all sending tweets but this was two years ago and I don't think any of them were using Twitter yet! Things are changing faster and faster!)

Vampire hiss!

It's pretty much impossible to make tough guy faces when you have beach hair and a pink towel, but that sure as hell didn't stop the likes of us!
subway
Checking out pics on the subway ride home.
subway
On Saturday morning we met up with Lisa and Pauly and took the A out to Far Rockaway.
subway
On Sunday morning I told Meredith I was having brunch with some former co-workers that were in town visiting, but I was really secretly meeting up with Amanda, Scott and Leigh to go shopping FOR AN ENGAGEMENT RING! Oh, snap!

That's right! After four years of dating, I decided that I was going to surprise Meredith and ask her to marry me at Sarah Lewitinn's Memorial Day BBQ; it was the fourth anniversary of the very same party that Meredith asked me out on our first date in 2004!
subway
After showering and breakfast (my stomach had thankfully returned to feeling normal after a close-call with Cairo's tap water the previous evening), I caught the subway and headed cross-town over to the district of Cairo that's near Giza.
subway
Around 4:30 it started to get chilly and we decided to head home. Meredith wore her sunglasses all day and when she took them off she realized she'd gotten a tan-line on the bridge of her nose! Haha.
subway
...and slightly sun-kissed!
subway
The beach ended up being a little bit chilly (and the water was downright un-swimmable!) so we only ended up spending a little over two hours before heading back. Here we are on the subway platform happy...
subway
Taking the A-train to Far Rockaway for...

Warm weather? The subway? West 4th Street? There can only be one explanation:
subway
On Monday morning, Meredith and I got up bright and early and took the F train over to West 4th Street station.
subway
A few days later, Grant's mom (Pauline) and Grant's grandma Pam were in town visiting from England! (FYI, Grammy Pam, who I met back when we stopped in England during our European Vacation, TOTALLY reads this website! Hi Grammy Pam!) I met up with the three of them to do some NYC exploring! Pauline and Pam were pumped, but someone (hint: the guy in the middle) was being a Grumpy Gus! Here we are headed uptown on the subway to...
subway
On Saturday morning Mer and I got up bright and early and took the A train out to Rockaway Beach! Fuck the Broadchannel shuttle transfer to the 118th St. Beach! We stayed on the A all the way out to 60th Street and go to the (sorta sketchy, but always totally empty) beach out there in the middle of nowhere.
subway
Nina's beach hair! Hahah.
subway
Schubway Schnacks!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You should always eat a healthy breakfast on the subway for energy! Otherwise...
