Steve played some tunes.
steve b
...and we headed over to Chris & Jen's to celebrate.
steve b
Hung with my cousins at their backyard bar.
steve b
Came home and digitized a bunch of old photos at my parent's place.
steve b
Steve went surfing for a bit.
steve b
We grew up playing this in our Pop Pop's basement and the smell of the sawdust always brings me back.
steve b
Shuffleboard with Rob & Steve.
steve b
Beach day in a convertible is pretty great.
steve b
Gotta soak up the Florida sun!
steve b
...for a VR party!
steve b
Post-feast dog party.
steve b
...to walk to the nearby 24-hour McDonalds! Yeeeessss.
steve b
One last pitcher for last call!
steve b
We all grew up playing shuffleboard together in our pop-pop's basement....
steve b
My dad's brother Bruce and his two sons Chris & Steve all came to the hospital to visit my dad. All the Battjer boys in one place!
steve b
...and some heated shuffleboard!
steve b
After dinner, the cousin's headed to the excellent Florida stripmall bar, Harpers, for drinks....
steve b
...when we were feeling like this.
steve b
Props to the Uber driver who had to pick up our rowdy drunk asses several hours later....
steve b
My brother and my cousins with a hired Santa at Pop-Pop's basement Christmas party. Everyone's face in this photo is so funny!
steve b
And the took our time showering, and taking advantage of the kickass breakfast buffet!
steve b
...had ourselves a faaaacny dinner!
steve b
Three.
steve b
Two.
steve b
The wave there is SO FAST. Here's another three-second sequence.
steve b
There wasn't anyone else in the line up.
steve b
Back at the house, we packed up our stuff. Before showering and shaving, Steve and I compared the facial hair we'd both let grow out for the last 5 days. When two Battjers have a facial hair contest, it turns out that...
steve b
...three!
steve b
...two...
steve b
Three second sequence: One...
steve b
...or that way.
steve b
This way...
steve b
Steve making it look deceptively easy.
steve b
Cap'n Lance packing up.
steve b
Good times.
steve b
Backflip.
steve b
In five hours of fishing, we only managed to catch a few fish, but we did manage to drink many beers.

steve b
Haha. I love this photo.

Captain Lance at the helm.
steve b
Chris woke us up bright and early to go fishing. (Gove: IS THIS FOR FISHING?) Breakfast of champions. Steve and Chris representing for the "beefcake" side of the Battjer clan.
steve b
I did however manage a teeny tiny bit of ego recovery when I managed to hold my own in BEACH WASHERS, the poor man's version of horseshoes that we played every night at sunset...
steve b
...family style dinner courtesy of Chris' cooking skills!
steve b
Also, because you're so far off shore, when you catch a wave, you can ride it a looooong time.
steve b
Superman ejection! I got sweaty palms just watching them.
steve b
The waves isn't as consistent or well-formed as Colorado...
steve b
I couldn't even comprehend paddling that far out into waves this big. Look what you have to go through - and if you get pummeled, you can't go anywhere because land is VERY far away.
steve b
...this time at Panga Drops: a deep water break about 500 yards off shore. Here's a photo of Steve getting close to the wave after about five solid minutes of paddling.
steve b
Later that afternoon, Chris and Steve decided to go for a second session...
steve b
Nice long reading session after lunch.
steve b
A little before noon...
steve b
Steve about to get barreled.
steve b
And here's Steve surfing a wave that hopefully explains why I nearly soiled my boardshorts when I found myself on the other side of it. Surfing East Coast waves that are 5 or 6 feet is no big deal. This, however, was a whole different animal.
steve b
On the way back from our hike, we met a friendly Australian and chatted a bit in the shade while we waited for the tide to go down...
steve b
...and climbed up the hillside to check out the view! If you look to the right of the picture you can see the red roofs of the condo and the river mouth to the left.
steve b
We made our way over the rocks...
steve b
On Sunday, the guys woke up early to go surfing Colorado again. I took a pass and slept in. After they got back, we had a big breakfast...
steve b
...and beers!
steve b
After clearning customs...
steve b
Married!
steve b
...to the hotel room after-party!
steve b
Haha.
steve b
...have a dance off!
steve b
The wedding isn't complete until the bride and groom...
steve b
...and stole the bride and the groom for a dance!
steve b
steve b
Chris gave an awesome speech...
steve b
The did the whole cake thing...
steve b
...with NO cake-smashing funny business!
steve b
The brand new Mr. & Mrs. Battjer!
steve b
Congrats, Steve & Rachel!
steve b
Vows
steve b
At the altar!
steve b
Steve up front waiting for the bride to arrive!
steve b
Father and son.
steve b
steve b
Scott busted out some crazy-ass Footloose moves and started swinging Leigh around! (Steve's expression in the background is great.)
steve b
Hahaha.
steve b
My hammy-family all cramming together for another awesome group shot.
steve b
Awesome family photo! Jay, Brittany, Katie, Drew, Mom, Chad, me, Steve, Kristie, Mer and Hank!
steve b
Yep, they dropped my wife! Action shot of Mer on her way down! (Steve's face is priceless.)
steve b
A little before midnight, the beach party-crew...
steve b
New buds.
steve b
Once more with Bob falling down!
steve b
Jump shot!
steve b
I handed the camera off and managed to sneak into one of the group shots.
steve b
...but we ended up hanging out drinking on the porch...
steve b
Haha.
steve b
Haha. Elyse, Bruce, Chris, Steve, me and Nalin!
steve b
Elaine, Bruce, Steve and mom.
steve b
I call this photo "Drunk Cousins."
steve b
...and none of could get over similar Steve looks to our grandfather, Hank J. Battjer, on his wedding day.
steve b
Hahaha. So awesome.
steve b
Haha. Let's hear it for NEW FRIENDS!
steve b
That was the sensible choice. Chris, Steve and I decided to keep on drinking heavily and somehow ended up on the beach partying with the locals we'd met in the bar.
steve b
Families co-mingling!
steve b
Me with my cousins Steve and Chris.
steve b
ALL the Battjer boys! Me, Brett, Brian Sr, Bruce, Chris and Steve.
steve b
Brett and Meredith with the OTHER Battjer boys: Bruce, Steve and Chris.
steve b
My dad's parents, Hank and Connie Battjer, with my cousins Chris and Steve. The one on the bottom is me blowing out birthday candles with my cousin Chris watching (and looking like a bug).
