We probably only lasted about 60 seconds or so, but we got in all the way and that's what counts! The Dude even got in a bit with us to make sure we were going to be alright! Maddy barked and barked from the warm safety of the sand.
...and then swam across the "The Split" the body of water that divides the southern, inhabited side of Caye Caulker from the uninhabited and undeveloped northern half of the island. I explore on my own for about 30 minutes, but then got nervous about accidentally surprising a crocodile and decided to swim back over to where the rest of the humans were.
Meredith and Peter (the other German dude that our new friend Daniel was traveling with) decided to go for a late night swim in the wonderfully warm water.
While the swim was fun, Meredith realized that spending the rest of her drunk night in soaking wet clothes probably wouldn't be all that awesome and we decided to stumble home in search of dry clothes and a bed to pass out on.
Check out the totally jungley mountains in the background. Can you believe that this place actually exists in the world? Even though I was there, every time I see these pictures I'm like "What? That place can't be real!"
I had brought my waterproof camera case so I decided to go for a swim and take some pics! Nina came with me (and if you look closely at the right-hand side of the pic, you can see her pointing her toes and doing one of her famous "I was a former synchronized swimmer" moves). Hahah.
