a thing in 26 photos in 2013 river showing 2013 only · show all years Very cool little community! It was like being in the Canadian version of the Mississippi delta bayou! While we were walking around, a few residents came out to chat with us. ...and found ourselves in the midst of Finn Slough, a community of thirty houses, floating houses, house boats and stilt-houses right on ,or in some cases, IN the river. Rushing river. Don't look down! ...where it flattened out a bit for another bridge, this one marked by a chainsaw-carved bear. We followed the trail up to... Another rushing river. Followed this river for a while... Love watching the tug boats pull... So neat to see so much lush, uninhabited forest... ...and the guy even let me hand-crank the bridge across! ...cable to be HAND-CRANKED across the river by this guy! Awesome, right? After the bridge arrived, he drove on... The road we were on lead right up to the edge of the river. We had to wait for the floating bridge... We got back to the dock a little past three. An awesome day. If you're in Placenia, definitely check out the Monkey River boat tour with Percy! Turquoise mangrove. Boat ride back to Placenia. No big deal, just a ten-foot long crocodile. Neat to be in a place that still has really large wild animals. Walking along the water's edge near our boat, Percy paused on the path and pointed to a gnarly, tooth-filled snout poking up out of the water. Percy also pointed out a yellow flower , which if made into a tea, acts as a natural antidiuretic, earning it the local name "Piss-a-bed plant." Hahaha. Flying south along Belize's coastline.
