Mom couldn't stop crying because she kept thinking about how it was probably dad's last Christmas (it was). On our last night we took family pics by the tree. ...my dad's best friend Roger and his wife Bonnie for dinner. Roger is British and my dad's version of Grant. It was really sweet to watch them hang out and interact. (Sadly, Roger passed away just a few months after my dad in late 2018.) We turned around and our audience of supervisors had tripled! This ornament is really cute. Love looking back at old photos. (Who would've guessed that about me, right?) Dad supervised. I love this supervisor's smile in this photo. Lol. (Miss this guy.) Compared to this flashback pic from the late 90s! Happy Thanksgiving from the Battjers! <3 Maddy loves my dad. ...she looked up to give him a kiss. Lol. I love this pic. <3 My dad had been undergoing chemo and was bald! But he was in relatively good spirts and it was great to see him out of the hospital. Was really cute to see them interacting. Right in the middle of taking their picture... ...of me saying goodby to my dad. <3 On Saturday I packed up and got ready to drive my new truck back up to NY. My mom took these lovely pics... My dad was discharged from the hospital after a scary two weeks. Nice to have him back home! Later that afternoon, I picked up Brett and we went to hang with Dad in the hospital. My dad's brother Bruce and his two sons Chris & Steve all came to the hospital to visit my dad. All the Battjer boys in one place! ...my parent's video conferencing with newly arrived baby Sam back in DC. Cute moment catching... <3 Got back and got a health update from dad. ...and my dad holding court in good spirits despite his recent, terrible diagnosis. Got to the hospital... Happy 70th, dad! All dressed up and ready to head to the party! ....to celebrate my dad's 70th birthday! After dinner whiskeys and cigars (shhh...don't tell mom!) outside. Happy birthday, dad! He was really happy she flew down from NJ for his party! Henrietta stood up to tell funny stories about my dad as a little kid. My dad cracking jokes with my cousin Chris. ...I get the gift of gab from my dad. (Ok, probably from my mom too). The apple doesn't fall far from the tree... Fun to watch him walk around and work the room. ...he made the rounds and chatted up everyone and thanked them all for flying down to Florida to help him celebrate. And then before dinner came out... My dad thanked everyone for coming! Later that afternoon, after I'd hosed all the lizard blood off the patio, some of my parent's friends came over early to pregame before my dad's big birthday party!
