Dads 70th Birthday

At the end of January I flew down to Florida to celebrate my dad's 70th birthday!

Thursday, January 26th

Got to JFK at noon.

maddy — Maddy is a seasoned airplane pro at this point

me, mom — Headed to dinner with my mom on the waterfront.

The fish are attracted to the little fish around the dock lights...

...and the pelicans are attracted to the the fish!

Made it in time to watch the sunset.

Friday, January 27th

At breakfast...

...my mom always sets the table with my mug with my name on it I got at Disney world when I was 8. <3

aunt barb, aunt elaine, aunt sue, grandma, mom — Other notable mugs in my parents cabinet include this one of my grandma and her four daughters! So good.

maddy — I let Maddy out onto the back porch so she could get to work on her daily quota of lizard murder.

maddy — The floor was littered with bodies and blood before I'd even finished breakfast.

Why do you like killing things and nibbling them into pieces so much, dachshund?

dad, dave l, gary chanowich, grandma, kathy chanowich, mom, pat little — Later that afternoon, after I'd hosed all the lizard blood off the patio, some of my parent's friends came over early to pregame before my dad's big birthday party!

dad — All dressed up and ready to head to the party!

dad, me — Happy 70th, dad!

dad — My dad thanked everyone for coming!

dad — And then before dinner came out...

dad — ...he made the rounds and chatted up everyone and thanked them all for flying down to Florida to help him celebrate.

dad — Fun to watch him walk around and work the room.

dad — The apple doesn't fall far from the tree...

dad — ...I get the gift of gab from my dad. (Ok, probably from my mom too).

chris b, dad — My dad cracking jokes with my cousin Chris.

dad, henrietta — Henrietta stood up to tell funny stories about my dad as a little kid.

dad, henrietta, mom — He was really happy she flew down from NJ for his party!

chris b, dad, jen, jennifer — After dinner whiskeys and cigars (shhh...don't tell mom!) outside. Happy birthday, dad!

Stayed up late listening to Rudolf Steiner.

Saturday, January 28th

chris b — The next afternoon, we went over to Chris...

chris b, uncle bruce — ...and headed out on his boat to a bar called the Sandbar.

I did a little pregaming in a bean bag chair.

I like bars that have boat parking lots.

On the way home...

chris b — ...we picked up some dinner!

Sunda, January 29th

On Sunday I drove down towards Miami to visit Alysha and Yonatan. I don't have any pics of them, just pics of the super nerdy storytelling map game we played, The Quiet Year

alysha, yonatan — Before each turn, you draw a card and you get a prompt for an additon you have to make to the story and add a correlary drawing of it on the map.

We had to invent all sort of things and you write them down on cards to keep the story straight. Super fun! Thanks for having me for the night!

Monday, January 30th

maddy — On Monday we headed back to New York

Airplane reading.

Nothing worse than coming back to rainy snow in New York after a January trip to Florida. Boooo.

At least I had my favorite hat to keep me warm.

Ok fine, couch and wool blanket it is.
