I got home around 2am and my mom was still up! First time ever! (My mom usually starts sleeping on the couch around 9pm and then after a two hour nap, wakes up at 11pm so that she can go to bed proper!). I guess that new "Sexiest Man Alive" issue of People Magazine must've been keepin' her up!
Each of the photograph series in the books came with its own plastic packet filled with "edible fragrances" printed on that same edible film they make those Listerine breath-strips out of. It was creepy. Some of the flavors/fragrances included: Guilt, Power, Youth, Orgasm, and my personal favorite...
While I was waiting at the airport, I got a call from Grant who told me that the article he'd written for Muscle & Fitness magazine, From Geek 2 Freak, had just come out and that I should try to find it on the stands. Great success! (If you're interested in reading the article, I found the text online here.)
At lunch I met up with Leigh and we went to the magazine store on Spring and Lafayette so she could show me her picture in a magazine. (I can't remember which mag this was...maybe Teen Vogue?). Well, needless to say, this was one of the first times she'd appeard in a mag and she was totally excited...since then, Leigh appearing in magazines has pretty much become a weekly thing! Why you gotta be so fashionable?
We laughed about born again kids in Brooklyn saving themselves for marriage (because Jesus said so) that decided to smoke a fucking tobacco hookah for their picture in Rolling Stone. WTF? That's like a total double-whammy of cheese.
Sarah, who's been a nut about Interpol since their first EP, used to get chastised by the rest of the Spin staff for liking them. A week after she left the magazine to start her own label, Spin put Interpol on the cover.
On Thursday afternoon Grant and I met up for lunch at the Homestyle Cafe (where we pretty much ate lunch together every single day for like 2 years when we worked at Nerve.com / Spring Street). He had a meeting later that week with his friend that's now an editor and Glamour and I was going to try to help him brainstorm and come up wtih story ideas he could pitch.
Jake Bronstein is the master of calling in free swag. I couldn't believe that he hooked us up with a free trip to the Arctic. When I told him that I didn't have a winter jacket the fucker got on the horn with Columbia and they sent us 2 grand's worth of schwag. Wicked.
