...that's right, it's BOOTYOKE! Once or twice a year, Chris puts together a karaoke night where you have to come in your underwear. (Er, sorta like Sid and Buddy used to have WAY back in the day).
On Tuesday night, I stopped by Pianos at 1:30am to see if they'd started playing Guitar Hero yet. But no such luck. When I arrived, there were still bands playing but Blake and Shandi were there (in rock n' roll makeup no less!) waiting for the video game action to begin!
Then after the show, I went upstairs to sing karaoke and found that Guitar Hero had REPLACED karaoke for the night. WHOA! I also found that Shandi had dressed up (complete with face paint!!!) as Lars Ümlaüt, her favorite Guitar Hero character. Amazing.
A little past 1am all the bands finished playing downstairs. So Jasper busted out his Playstation and set up Guitar Hero on the big screen (with the audio patched through the club's PA system! Rock!) Here's Shandi.
GUITAR HERO IS THE NEW KARAOKE! Er, or at least it was for a few short weeks at Pianos! Late at night, after all the bands had finished playing, Jasper (the guy that books all the bands at Pianos) would bust out his Playstation and run the video to the bigscreen projector and the audio through the club's PA system! It was amazing.
The place was pretty much packed with all people I didn't recognize...at least until Shandi took with stage to sing a duet with Kareem (who I don't know but I like his photography a lot).
After watching the karaoke competition (I didn't RSVP in time to be a contestant), I headed over to Pianos to SING some karaoke! Hahah. Here's me and Shanthrax.
I also ran into Kevin (only his red Super Mario pants and blue shirt are visible in this photo). He's a karaoke character that I know from way back in the early Nolita Tavern days of Sid & Buddy karaoke! I'll never forget the night the karaoke machine broke and the 5 or 6 of us that were there all agreed to go up and sing our karaoke songs a capella! Every one did fun, sing-a-long type songs and then Kevin went up and sang the theme song from M*A*S*H. (You know, the one that has 8 verses, each followed with a refrain that goes "suicide is painless." Needless to say, no one really felt like singing again (ever!) after he'd finished!
