The July Roundup: Part One

Tuesday, July 3rd

blake, shandi
On Tuesday night, I stopped by Pianos at 1:30am to see if they'd started playing Guitar Hero yet. But no such luck. When I arrived, there were still bands playing but Blake and Shandi were there (in rock n' roll makeup no less!) waiting for the video game action to begin!
Around 2:30, I went over to Motor City to meet up with...
me, vin
...Vin...
me ˆ vin
ken
...and Ken!
After Motor City I was walking on Rivington to get a slice of pizza and came across a pack of wild rats that were dashing back and forth across the sidewalk carrying delicious trash back to their nest from a huge garbage pile. What rats, you ask? Well, how about we zoom in on this photo a bit.
Check the zoomed view! INFESTATION! I count eight of them! (There are two peeking out behind the green pole in the upper left corner and then six peeking out from under the white door!)
They were wise to me watching them and stayed hidden, but as soon as I took a few more steps down the street, they all made another mad rush for the trash pile! Hahah. It's hard to see them, so how about another zoom?
He's gone! He's gone! Trash! Delicious trash!

Wednesday, July 4th

We all had off of work on Wednesday for the Fourth of July. So we decided to head down to Chinatown and get vegetarian dim sum brunch! With Murdo...

After the fireworks were over, everyone went back downstairs to the apartment...

...and Sarah broke out some KARAOKE VIDEO GAME she'd recently gotten! Some eventually figured out to take this game, combine it with Guitar Hero and add a drum set and it became Rock Band.

Saturday, July 7th

Back in May, Matt Rubano and I signed up to take the Improv 101 class at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater! Eight weeks of classes later, I found myself backstage in the UCB's green room about to perform my first "show" with the rest of my class. (Matt couldn't make it because two weeks prior to the show, his band got an offer to play the Live Earth show at Giant's Stadium with The Police and Bon Jovi! I wasn't happy, but I had to admit that as far as excuses for canceling out on your buddies go, his was pretty good).
me
Our teacher split our class into two "groups." We decided to call our group "The THORgasm Theorem." Clockwise from the left: Andrew, Jim, Thor, Hadley, Lauren, me and Tina!
Our group was picked to perform second, so we got to sit and watch the other half of our class go first!
It was one of the more fun things I've done in a long, long time. If you've ever thought about signing up for improv classes, I highly recommend you give it a shot!
amanda, ellen, faran, josh m, meredith, murdo, posh tony, quinn, rosie
Later that night a whole bunch of people came over to hang and play Cranium! L to R: Josh, Posh, Niki, Amanda, Quinn, Faran, Rosie, Murdo and Ellen with her arms full of dogs!
ellen, hector, piper
Ellen gives the thumbs up as Hector gives Piper's B-hole a deep sniffing! Haha.
hector, meredith, ratso
Hector is the biggest B-hole sniffing dog there is!
hector, ratso
He even sniffs rat B-holes! Hahaha.

Sunday, July 8th

On Sunday afternoon, we met up with Sarah and headed over to the Greg and Geo's apartment for a backyard BBQ.

Monkey, Edie and Joanie. There were dogs everywhere!

Tuesday, July 10th

For a couple of months, Benjamin Apple, Mike Montero and myself were tapped to split away from the rest of the development group at CCI to create some new products. When asked what we wanted to call our "special" team, we came up with TEAM DOUCHE TRUMPET. (Which is the name given to the weird "wah-wah" noise I have a habit of making out of the corner of my mouth). Anyway, Monday was Benjamin's last day at the company, and when we came into work on Tuesday morning, we saw that Benjamin had left a shout out to Mike and I on his two monitors. Hahaha.

Wednesday, July 11th

mike m
On Wednesday night, I went out for drinks with my co-workers Mike and Court. We hit the East Village and met up with Mike's twin brothers. Here's Mike with one of his brothers and his brother's wife!
mike m
Around 1am, Mike told us he had to go home which meant he had to pose for this photo of Court and I giving him the "I'm a huge pussy" double thumbs down! Hahaha.
court, me
Court however, manned up and we ended up staying out another couple of hours! Thumbs up!

Thursday, July 12th

meredith
On Thursday night Meredith and I went to see a movie. Little known fact about Meredith: she likes to posh with promotional displays for upcoming movies. Here she is with a baby polar bear. Awwww!
meredith
Can you spot her in this photo? Hahahah.

Friday, July 13th

emilie, me
FRIDAY THE 13TH!!! Emilie Elizabeth was in town visiting from LA so I went out to Barcade in Brooklyn to meet up with her!
mona, nathaniel
Mona was there with her new boyfriend, Nathaniel.
mona, nathaniel
You could tell that she still wasn't 100% sure about him yet. Hahaha.
emilie
We got our drink on and played video games! Emilie working Ms. Pac-Man.
emilie
Then Frogger! (Here's Emilie proving the theorem I wrote for my graduate degree in mathematics: Classic Video Games + Pouty Chicks = Bonersville 2000!
Spy Hunter! They have Spy Hunter there! The only place that had this game when I was a kid was the roller skating rink that I used to go to! I was surprised to learn that it's a whole lot easier to use the gas pedal when you're not wearing roller skates.
emilie
Furrowed brow of concentration can only mean one thing...
Donkey Kong! Which is...
emilie
...still pretty much one of the hardest games ever!

Sunday, July 15th

emilie, mona
On Sunday afternoon I rode my bike up to Central Park to meet Emilie and Mona at the Central Park Zoo! Here they are chowing down on a pre-zoo Chipwich! Mmmmmmm!
Zoo time! Look, it's a giant, beaky bird!
emilie
Turle Egg Emile!
mona
Turtle Egg Mona!
Then we made our way over to the petting section of the zoo! We were just about to tease the shit out of this alpaca when we saw...
..this sign. Whew! Talk about a close one! Chalk one up for literacy!
Not wanting to be covered in a "foul-smelling stream" of harmless alpaca spit, we decided to feed the lil' fucker.
NOM NOM NOM.
"Uh, yes. Hello. Does you has more food?"
emilie
"Yes? Thanks you!" NOM NOM NOM.
Best. Animal-Hair. Ever.
Then we fed goats!
CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP!
Then we went and fed the wiry, snorty, pot-bellied pigs! (He was real camera shy and didn't like looking up).
pig ˆ zoo
After the petting zoo, we ventured out and explored the rest of the zoo. Sleeping polar bears!
Penguins!
And then at 4pm we headed to the big water tank to watch the staff feed the sea lions!
Sooo fun!
Living with the flamingos was...
...this guy!
A greater Malayan Mouse Deer!
We finished up our day at the zoo in the snake house. Green tree viper!
me
After the zoo, I rode home and took a nap. But then later on that night we all met back up...
emilie
...to have dinner at Wild Ginger! (One of my favorite veggie restaurants in NYC).
A little after midnight later that night, we met back up and headed over to The Annex because Sarah and Karen were throwing a party there and they said there was a fun band playing.
I don't remember what band this was, but they were indeed fun!
karen
Speaking of fun, it's KAREN WITH GIANT SUNGLASSES!
emilie
Hahaha. Amazing. The entire Annex was filled with giant sunglasses, glow-sticks and inflatable guitars and giant microphones. Maybe the band that was playing brought them? I have no idea.
emilie
Emilie raves with a glow-stick on a lanyard! RAVE!
karen, me
Hahaha.
jeet, me
Gurjeet was there! I larvae her!
jeet ˆ me
karen, sarah
After the band was finished playing, we totally had ourselves a "dance like no one's watching" dance party.
emilie, jeet
Dance! Dance, I say!
emilie, jeet
Hahah. Singing out loud into a giant microphone got us thinking about KARAOKE! And since it was 1:30am on a Sunday night, that meant that...
karaoke colin
...Colin "The King of Karaoke" Schiller was hosting his weekly karaoke party down in the basement of Lit! We said farewell to everyone at The Annex and ten minutes later we were down in a smoky basement...
emilie
...and browsing the karaoke book looking for songs to sing!
karaoke colin
This guy's a karaoke regular. Usually he sings old school punk rock songs (big surprise there, right?), but this time he was singing...
...Rehab by Amy Winehouse! Hahaha.
I don't remember what song this guy sang, but I do remember...
emilie
...that it was hilarious.
karaoke colin
Colin The Karaoke King Dueting!
emilie, me
Yay! Thanks for coming to NYC to visit, Emilie! Hope to see you again real soon! It's been way too long! Xoxo!
