If you look closely, you'll see the HUGE woodpecker on the right side of the tree right in the middle of the frame. He's got a bright red head and a skinny yellow beak.
....but was surprised to see that they willing to get so close to me. (I'm guessing that from their perspective I move in slow-motion like a mountain of molasses)
He's called a Long-billed hermit! If you look on the left you can see his colors. I like how the top part of his beak is black and the bottom part is yellow. So handsome and hermit-y.
It was amazing to be able to stand in such close proximity to so many of them. The sound that their wings make when they fly in to land is so lovely and strange!
