Lorelei's 31st Birthday

Looking for a repeat performance of last year's spectacular celebration in honor of Lo's Birthday, the gang gathered once again - this time in Chinatown. First we met up for some delicious dinner at Pongsri Thai Restaurant and then with very full bellies we walked exactly one door over Winnie's for some karaoke action.

pierre — We thought that x and y looked like brothers so we made them sit next to each other for this pic. In addition to looking like y, x also bears a striking rememblance to my friend Pierre.

pierre, tony meyer — How about this - using my masterful Photoshop skills I'll bring Pierre into the pic for comparison's sake. (And check out the background: I'll even throw in a little Tony Meyer magic for good measure). Do these guys look like brothers or what?

emma — After dinner we all headed nextdoor to Winnie's for karaoke!

jamie k, jenny e — Jenny and Jamie. (Who are getting married this coming July 4th - woooo! Stay tuned, that's a diary entry just waiting to happen).

grant, me — Winnie's didn't have paper tablecloths so Grant was forced to draw his nightly picture of me on a karaoke request slip and hold it up for the cam.

lorelei, me — Lo and I warmed things up with a not-so-great rendition of the '91 Spin Doctor's jam "Two Princes." (Yo, you might think this song is easy - but don't forget, there's like 2 minutes of hippyesque scatting at the end. Ugh).

emma, lorelei — Em & Lo teamed up to sing a duet.

grant, me, michael martin — Michael, relatively new to our "scene," clearly missed his cue to troe down a gangsign for the cam.

grant — Grant coldlamps with Winnie herself.

michael martin — When Grant ran into a little trouble singing George Michael's "Kissing a Fool," Michael ran up to the stage to lend support with this "lone lighter" salute.

michael martin — If you've ever had the pleasure of meeting Michael Martin, you might think he was a shy guy - and totally not the type to show up outta nowhere, grab the mic, and represent with a heart-wrenching rendition of the Cars' classic 80's rock ballad, Drive.

emma, grant — Much like Emma was driven to tears at the last karaoke outing, Michael caused a few tears to be shed that night, yes he did.

grant — Grant was getting antsy singing in English, so we made friends with a Chinatown local who brought Grant up on stage to sing a Mandarin tune called "Crystal." Check out the guy's expression as we listens to Grant pretend to sing in Chinese.

Yep. To be perfectly honest with you, I always had my suspicions about that Henry Chong guy.

grant, michael — At 1:17am Grant and Michael quietly gathered their things and announced that they were going to leave together and "you know, split a cab back to Brooklyn, because we sort of, um, live near each other."

emma, lorelei, tookie — Even our new Chinese friend wasn't fooled by their clever subterfuge.
