roller coaster

roller coaster
...pretty intimidating looking!
roller coaster
I met up with Grant and his friend Leanne who was visiting from Vancouver. Before the beach, we decided to start off with a ride on the Thunderbolt! Coney Island's new rollercoaster that's...
roller coaster
After!
roller coaster
But you know what? That's just the kind of shit you can get away with when...
roller coaster
All smiles aftewards!
roller coaster
Thirty stories is an INSANE roller coaster drop.
roller coaster
Meredith's expression before boarding. Haha.
roller coaster
Before the park closed, we just barely had time to wait in line to sneak in Millenial Force...the 300 foot-tall world-record-breaking coaster!
roller coaster
There was hardly any wait so we decided to go a second time!
roller coaster
Here we go!
roller coaster
First, we hit up the big wooden roller coaster!
roller coaster
View of the lake on the way up.
roller coaster
...and to strategize about which of the CLASS 5 coasters were left for us to try out. Haha.
roller coaster
First stop, Mantis!
roller coaster
Decent hanging coaster.
roller coaster
Last ride of the day!
roller coaster
ONE MORE TIME!
roller coaster
Hahaha.
roller coaster
Up up and away.
roller coaster
Back across the park to Superman.
roller coaster
Heart loop.
roller coaster
Old school Rolling Thunder.
roller coaster
Happy birthday, Gurj! Thanks for being my friend!
roller coaster
No place I'd rather be.
roller coaster
So goooood!
roller coaster
After lunch, it was time for El Toro!
roller coaster
...Batman!
roller coaster
After a couple more rides on Nitro, we headed over to...
roller coaster
Closer to the top...
roller coaster
Oh, man. I love Nitro so much. Here we go!
roller coaster
...3...2...1...
roller coaster
Yes! Er, wait...
roller coaster
...the sights!
roller coaster
...we'd made it to the (almost totally empty) parking lot. We'd made such good time on the way down that we had plenty of time to set up my camera to try to catch shots of us jumping in the air using the auto-timer. Haha.
roller coaster
Taken just a second before our car went over the drop. Hahah.
roller coaster
With a belly full of food, we opted for the smooth speed of NITRO!
roller coaster
...to ride Superman.
great adventure
September 19, 2010
roller coaster
Up next!
roller coaster
Hands up before the drop, here we go!
roller coaster
I like to look at the lattice-work while waiting to ride!
roller coaster
Hardly any line at all!
roller coaster
Yes!
roller coaster
Right before the big drop (bonus points for accidentally taking a picture of the kid over my right shoulder shitting rocks).
roller coaster
...the view was perfect.
roller coaster
On the way up...
roller coaster
...then went over to Steel Force.
roller coaster
We rode an old wooden coaster...
roller coaster
The sun set a little after seven.
roller coaster
How many of these photos could they possibly be selling?
roller coaster
Last time I went to Great Adventure I only got to ride 3 rides!
roller coaster
Awesome.
roller coaster
Go!
roller coaster
Hardly any lines. We basically walked on rides over and over
roller coaster
Hydra!
roller coaster
Ticket ride.
roller coaster
Twisty and turny.
roller coaster
We only had to wait about 15 minutes to get on our first coaster.
roller coaster
Perfect afternoon.
roller coaster
Clearly in the grip of fear.
roller coaster
Afterwards, we had time for one more big coaster and then it was time...
roller coaster
Afterwards we rode the brand new coaster, El Toro. (More like "Eh, Toro").
roller coaster
...we goooooooooo! Faaaaaaaaaaack!
roller coaster
The view from the very top. And here...
roller coaster
Almost there!
roller coaster
Meredith and I on the way up.
roller coaster
Jenny, Gurj and Grant returning from their ride.
roller coaster
Here's a pic (stolen from Dens!) of us on the coaster! This was the ride where Dennis discovered he wasn't a huge fan of roller coasters! (The three of us all have our arms in the air and he's holding on for dear life).
roller coaster
And here's Dens and Karen. Check out the photo of Dens on the right: 0 - 128mph in 3.5 seconds = G-forces smoooooshing yer face. Hahaha.
roller coaster
Here's two pics of Natascha and I: we're in both frames in the third seats.
roller coaster
Long story short, we get to Kingda Ka and the line is closed. I give the guard a sob story about how we'd only gotten to ride ONE RIDE (er, ok...and a $20 handshake...cha-ching!) and we were magically admitted to the line. Four hour wait, my ass! Wooooo! Here's us right up at the front of the line.
roller coaster
Dens: Cowering.
roller coaster
Almost there!
roller coaster
45 minutes later and we could finally see the ride.
roller coaster
Superman: The Ride!
roller coaster
Roller photo recreation: Karen enjoying herself.
roller coaster
Finally!
roller coaster
Waiting for the front.
roller coaster
After lunch I met back up with my kids and we all rode the Eagle Fortress coaster again.
roller coaster
After sampling all of the other coasters, we all agreed that Nitro was our favorite by far. So we went back and rode it again.
roller coaster
After Batman, we headed over to check out Nitro - which at 230ft (over 20 storeys!!!) is the largest traditional roller coaster on the entire east coast.
roller coaster
But nothing a breeze on Rolling Thunder (the sketchy-ass wooden roller coaster) couldn't fix.
roller coaster
Here's a picture of us pretending we're not scared shitless.
roller coaster
...yet eleven short minutes later we nearly crapping our pants.
roller coaster
The line for this one seemed like it might be long....
roller coaster
This picture does the size of this coaster no justice. It's insanely tall.
roller coaster
Arrrrr...thar she blows, matey. The great, white terror.
roller coaster
After our delicious, Rain-Foresty dinner digested a bit (which took longer than usual in the 110°F heat) we went over to New York, NY (it's a hotel)...
roller coaster
and rode the roller coaster! (The sign said no cameras, but my camera's really small so I thought I'd be able to sneak it on. The coaster started off and figuring I was safe, I snapped this pic - but one of the guys that worked there was on to me and was running along side the coaster, and totally snagged me and nabbed my camera).
roller coaster
Here's me with my Lucent co-workers hard at work on the Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags Great Adventure. Does it look like I liked my job? That's Mary and I in the front, and Dave Brown and Brian Milewski in the back.
