fruit — ...everything taste sweet! The pills contained miraculin, a compound extracted from a west African berry that makes really sour stuff taste sweet. "Miraculin works by binding to the sweet receptors on the tongue. Miraculin's effect lasts as long as the protein is bound to the tongue, which can be up to an hour. It makes most acidic foods taste sweet, but does not improve the taste of bitter things."
