The February Roundup

Here are all the photos I took in February 2011

Tuesday, February 1st

leigh
On Tuesday afternoon, Leigh and I met up for lunch at Zen Palette and had ourselves a VEGETARIAN FEAST!
meredith
Later that night we went over to Matt's apt. Meredith getting ready to make mango guacamole!
biggy, maddy
Maddy & Biggy.
matt, meredith
Around 11pm we decided to settle in and watch Enter the Void.
meredith
There's a really disturbing scene in the movie where one of the characters gets shot by accident, made more disturbing by the fact that Meredith was wearing the exact same outfit as the dead guy in the movie. Haha.
Two-hours and forty-one minutes later...
matt, meredith
...uh, WHOA. Needless to say, this is a very intense and interesting movie. More-so, if you're familiar with The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying or any of the ontological Buddhist beliefs about the six bardos of existence.
Meredith and I walked home in the ice-crusted snow. This movie stuck with me for weeks. It's really intense, but I think very much worth enduring.

Wednesday, February 2nd

There was freezing rain overnight and in the morning, everything was covered in icicles!
The entire, huge bamboo plant across the street was encased in a thin crust of ice...
...the extra weight eventually caused (all twenty-five feet of it) to collapse!
On Wednesday afternoon, Egypt got their internet back and I spent most of the work day reading reports of what was going on over there and trying to understand it.
Packing crate buried in snow on the walk home.
Check out our healthy fridge!

On Thursday evening, I finally managed to get the NeuroSky headset I ordered working with my computer! The headset is a BCI (brain-computer interface) that measures your brainwaves in real-time and sends a stream of data wirelessly to your computer where it can be used to interact with computer programs.

Here's a photo of my playing one of the simple games that comes installed where you try to make barrels on the screen explode by focusing your attention on them.
jeet
Gurj is a barrel-exploding JEDI!

Thursday, February 3rd

Netflixin.
Not quite the Neurosky headset, but basically I'm in league with the likes of this guy.
mrs stoddard
This is a picture of the birthday cake that Pauline (Grant's mom!) was given by her friends. She owns a salon and offeres bikini waxes (along with many other services) but her friends decided to make her a birthday cake about waxing! Hahaha. UNBELIEVABLE!
Evening smoothie.
piper
Then I gave this pig-belly that we were dog-sitting a bath!

Saturday, February 5th

me, piper
Ugly in the morning!
I dug up this old book for my Ancient Alien-watching friends.
Spent the afternoon watching Joseph Campbell lectures on Netflix (my favorite thing they've had on so har!). Theyr'e all gone now, but they used to have 3 lecture series of his! (Sukhavati, Mythos, The Hero's Journey)
Later that afternoon, I re-watched Waking Life. Gets better with each watching. Outstanding movie.

Sunday, February 6th

maddy, meredith
On Sunday afternoon after taking care of the dingo...
...we made a subway trek out to Brooklyn...
fatty, henry
...to visit with Fatty, Marina and new, baby Henry! Dave shows off a fancy, new one-armed hold!
meredith
We ate lunch together and caught up.
fatty, henry
Fatty was telling us about how Marina was getting annoyed at him because he really enjoyed posting...
henry, marina
...ugly photos of Henry to the interwebs. Hahahah.
fatty, marina
We also heard a great story about the time that Dave saw Marina standing on the subway platform and decided to go over and say hello...
fatty, marina
...but not before putting his sweater over his face like a NINJA! Hahah.
henry, meredith
Henry & Mer.
henry
Haha.
Back at home, I spent the rest of the night watching more Joseph Campbell lectures on Netflix. SO GOOD!

Monday, February 7th

Sunny garbage boombox on the way to work.
piper
Not that I don't appreciate everything you guys are doing for me...
piper
...but do you have any idea when MY MOM IS COMING HOME?

Thursday, February 10th

In other February news, Meredith bought a food dehydrator...
meredith
...and got super into dehydrating all sorts of foods!
Watermelon, cantelupe and honeydew sliced up and laid out to dry!
maddy
Melon hound.

Wednesday, February 9th

Almost every day that I could sneak away from Yodle and take time for a real lunch, I'd go over to Bonobo's (I miss that place) and have one of their crazy-delicious NUT-MEAT PATTY SALADS. Mmmmm.
The old fuse box in the back of the building is pretty.

Thursday, February 10th

On Thursday evening I went to an office party down the street from my work...
irwin
...caught up with Irwin and got to meet his adorable son, Kai!
meredith
I got home to find Meredith making fruit leather with her dehydrator!
Kate's Joint veggie burger for dinner...
...and homemade fruit pie empanadas for dessert!
Our fridge is filled with little baggies of dehydrated fruites and veggies.
Later that night I started watching MOAR Joseph Cambell lecture series.
This series was interspersed with little intro clips by Susan Sarandon.
meredith
Giggler.

Friday, February 11th

Ctown flyers tucked behind a building number on my block.
Came home in the evening to fresh-baked corn muffins. Yes!

Saturday, February 12th

ellen, meredith, siege, vanessa
Siege, Ellen & Vanessa came over to hang on Sunday evening!
maddy, vanessa
Vanessa and Maddy.
Pizza delivery!
What's better than a pizza party?
meredith
How about a sexy pizza party?
vanessa
Vanessa seeing her brainwaves on the computer screen for the first time!
The headset measures 8 brainwaves (Delta, Theta, Low Alpha, High Alpha, Low Beta, High Beta, Low Gamma & High Gamma) and also has a chip-set algo that reads these 8 wave-forms in real time and outputs them in two additional channels called "attention" (one-pointedness of mind) and "meditation" (openness of mind).
vanessa
Got all that? Now concentrate and relax at the same time!
ellen
Ellen's turn!

Sunday, February 13th

meredith
I got home just in time to give Meredtih a hand cutting up the homemade FRUIT LEATHER she'd made with her food dehydrator!
meredith
Pineappletastic!
Happy Valentine's Day!

Tuesday, February 15th

On Tuesday morning, I followed these baby ducks to the subway.
meredith
Later that night we headed over to Madison Square Garden! Meredith's great aunt and uncle raise purebred dogs and they gave us tickets to come see...
The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show!
At first I was worried that the place was going to be filled with smug, hoity-toity people - but then I remember that everyone there was a DOG-LOVER and laid back and friendly. Everywhere you looked, people where wearing clothes that indicated that they were dog-fans. Haha.
We were there for the final night!
Martha, my dear.
This guy trotted around like the handsomest mop that ever lived.
There are so many varieties of dogs! It was wild to get to see so many of them in one place at the same time.

Wednesday, February 16th

Shadow flags in Flatiron.
Locked doors on the walk to work.
Chained mammoth.

Thursday, February 17th

On Thursday I went to see an allergist. There was a skeleton that had misbehaved in the waiting room.

Friday, February 18th

Admiring an archway on my walk to get a sandwich.
Vaulty.
matt
Later that night, I went to see Matt's improv group with Ellen and Mer.

And got my Thai lunch feast on.

Baller.

Sunday, February 20th

On Sunday afternoon, I headed over to the West Village to see Tyson off to LA (complete with some freshly handmade soaps from Meredith, aw.)
matt, tyson
Ty & Matt behind the bar. Fly west from this cold, my friend!
Hot lamp.

Monday, February 21st

Had the day off of work on Monday for President's Day. Morning selfie of sleepy me getting ready to take Maddy for a walk...
...in the sleepy, snow-dusted East Village.
Park across the street.
Lazy Monday.
I like these fence poles.
Wind chimes and show-covered flamingos.
Bikes.
Made some oatmeal about for breakfast.
Blueberries.
Breakfast of champions weirdos!

Monday, February 21st

A really cool thing about the Neurosky Mindwave is software that allows you to record brainwave information during meditation sessions and chart those data over time!
me
A really not-so-cool thing is the cone-shaped metal sensor that leaves a divit in your forehead! (The new headset is much more improved...and cheaper).
meredith
Homemade granola!

Wednesday, February 23rd

bortusk leer
Someone's been busy in our neighborhood!

Friday, February 25th

Friday at work we had a little cake party for Michelle's birthday.
aileen, ellen, meredith
Later that evening, Ellen and Eileen came over for dinner.

In other exciting news, Ellen had brought along a shirt from the very first production run her and Emily's clothing company, Ece Equestrian! Congrats, Ellen!

I got the raw "big mac." I liked the way it looked more than I liked the taste. Wah wah.
quinn
Happy Birthday Quinn! (Ellen and Mer made the cake using the cake molds that Ellen gave to Mer for her birthday!).
jeet, quinn
Spa Castle still awaits us, no?
kevin m
On the walk home I spotted (a dickified!) Kevin Myers in a Stella ad . Haha.

Sunday, February 27th

bortusk leer
While taking Maddy for her morning walk, I spotted another really great Bortusk Leer paste-up on 9th St between B & C. I love this one.
bortusk leer
If you look closely you'll see the eye and the teeth are cut-outs from a magazine. So good.
