Came home and digitized a bunch of old photos at my parent's place.

This ornament is really cute. Love looking back at old photos. (Who would've guessed that about me, right?)

Brett on putting-things-together duty.

Let the upwrapping begin!

Cut to 7am Christmas morning!
xmas + brett
All set up!
xmas + brett
Very excited to wake up and unwrap his presents in the early morning.

Got Max ready for bed in his Christmas Jammies.

Brett played some guitar.
xmas + brett
Max was eager to help with the strumming.

Later that afternoon, I took Brett to a music store and bought him a guitar for Christmas! He'd been wanting to learn for a while. Learning that first Amaj chord!

Christmas morning, 1988. (Check those mullets!)

Christmas 1987 - my brother and I freaking out about getting the long-awaited PHANTASY STAR for the Sega Master System. This was the first RPG I ever got into and it exploded both of our brains!

Christmas 1987! Me and Brett getting ready to open some videogame presents!

Your kid has a kid!

Proud papa!

Total naturals!

...like this excellent three-piece deluxe set of screen-cleaners! SCORE!

Brett and Amy's apartment was full with all sorts of new baby gear, so they'd asked for no presents, but my mom still insisted on getting Brett "a little something"...
xmas + brett
We also scored scarves!

I love my mom smiling in the background here.

Brett double-checking a suspect bag of cookies to make sure my mom hadn't substituted real holiday treats with "healthy cookies." Coast is clear, they're the real McCoy!

Brett and Amy getting ready to check out the loot in their stockings. Haha.

Back at the house that evening...

Pre-dinner holiday photo for my dad's holiday newsletter!

Around 4pm we all got cleaned up for company and even humored my mom and put on the matching sweaters!
xmas + brett
And some multi-colored chip-clips. Score!
xmas + brett
What other things were in the stocking?
xmas + brett
...that my dad got one as well! Hahah.
xmas + brett
Speaking of a Christmas story, the next morning my brother and I opened presents from our mother to find matching sweaters! And it turned out...
xmas + brett
Assorted hot chocolate flavors.

Another holiday dinner! Clockwise from left: My cousin Chris, mom, Amy, Brett, Amanda, my cousin Steve and Mer. (If I remember correctly, this is right before we all got into a big discussion about global warming - because my cousin Chris, who is a consultant for oil companies, doesn't believe it's real. Or that if it is, it's just part of a natural cycle and has nothing to do with humans burning pretty much the ENTIRE oil supply that took x years to develop in just the last 100-odd years. Hmmm....)

The next day a bunch of relatives came to our house for Christmas dinner. Clockwise from bottom left: Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle Wayne, mom, Aunt Elaine, Amy and Brett. Meredith and I = TOTALLY CROPPED OUT! Thanks, dad! Haha.

"Now throw your hands in the air and scream!"

For Christmas day, my grandparents and one of my mom's sister's family (The Carricks) came to our house. Christmas dinner in the house y'all. When I say "Hey," you say "Ho!" Now when I say "Je" you say "sus!"

My fam hung back and worked at destroying the pie and cake table.

Where every year the kitchen table greets us with no less than ten different cakes and pies.

That evening we all put on our most festivest Christmas sweaters (check out the bright green v-neck I dug up in my dad's closet)...
xmas + brett
The Battjer Treat Hounds.

...and my Aunt Ann.

My brother only had one present under the tree (from our mom) and it turned out to be a book on how to lose weight. He got all offended and started saying things like "Merry Christmas, Son...You're Fat!" In this pic he's just read the title and you can see his face starting to just turn sour.
