But hey, that's why they got into this whole rock thing anyway!
band
Yay, it's November! On Friday night, we went to see Fiasco play a show at Crash Mansion. Crash Mansion has one of the best sounding rooms in downtown NYC, but the crowd there is always a little...
band
If you look to the left of Brandon, you'll notice the bartender that was out on stage making drinks for the band while they played.
band
Joe on the ax!
band
...Nightmare of You!
band
After getting our Bacardi Breezer buzz on, we decided to head out to the Green Mango area and see if anything was going on. We found an awesome cover band, but by the time we got there it was after 1am and they were finishing up for the night!
band
We got inside and it seemed like it was some kind of hooker bar. There was a live band playing, but no one else was in the place except us, and 20 young Thai women who were made up and standing on another stage adjacent to the stage the band was playing on. Even after it was established that we weren't there "for a good time," everyone working still seemed psyched to at least have any kind of patrons.
band
After Ratt finished their set, Poison came out.
band
...it was time for the show! Ratt was the opening band! RATT! Hahahaha. Round and Round is a good song and all, but that was pretty much the only one I knew. (Fatty, on the other hand, has an impressive metal past and was knew all the words to all the songs!).
band
Here's We Are Scientists playing.
band
Posh and I got hooked up with wristbands! Wristbands provide you with two luxuries at Siren Fest: One, you get to drink for free at the backstage tent. Woooo! Two, you get to watch the bands right in front of the stage in an area block off from the rest of the crowd with gates. The downside is that it's WAY TOO LOUD. The upside is that it's not very crowded which means you don't end up trying to watch a band with sweaty bodies pressed against you in the July sun. Score!
band
A little after midnight later that night, we met back up and headed over to The Annex because Sarah and Karen were throwing a party there and they said there was a fun band playing.
band
I don't remember what band this was, but they were indeed fun!
band
Congrats on your last show ever, guys! See you in a couple of months at the next last show! (PS - Randy, wear a shirt next time!)
band
The crowd giving it up for their epic "last" performance!
band
Chicken fight, fucker!
band
Hahah. I love how Sexy Joe is keeping his balance by wrapping his arm around Jared's head.
band
Hey Rainbow Shirt, MORE COWBELL!
band
But then as soon as the music was turned back on and the bouncer guy walked to the back of the room, a bunch of people went up anyway to help the band play the last few songs.
band
...and Jared was inviting the entire audience to join the band on stage. The bouncer dude had the sound guy kill the audio and ran up to Jared and was like "No. No way. Got it?" Hahaha.
band
The show started out like any normal rock show, but after only a couple of songs, Sexy Joe stripped down into his undies...and then a few songs after that...
band
I put "last show" in quotes because Group Sounds broke up like 2 years ago and they play a "last show" every six months. Hahaha. Every time I ask them about it they're like "Well, we might play another show in a like a year, but who knows! And if we don't, then this definitely will be our last show." (And they say that same thing EVERY time.).
band
A little after midnight on Tuesday, I went to Piano's to see Schoolyard Heroes, one of the new bands that Sarah signed to Stolen Transmission, play a show.
band
They really liked the publicity photos I'd taken of them a couple of months earlier and wanted me to shoot some pics of them playing live. I shot a ton of photos, but sort of hated them all. Meh.
band
On Tuesday night, I went to the Bowery Ballroom to see Sam Champion play.
band
...and we went over to the Annex to see David's band, Apartment, play a show.
band
My new favorite guy was in the crowd. See him in the plum-colored, velour track-suit up there on the right?
band
If you like metal, GO SEE THIS BAND! (Figured I'd throw that in there just in case the electric-cello and double-necked bass/guitar combo didn't pique your interest).
band
Later that night, Matt and I went to see Priestbird (the amazing band formerly known as Tarantula) play at the Merc.
band
Caitlin's pretty much the best singer I know, so the show was great. And as an added bonus...
band
On Tuesday night Meredith and I went to the Bitter End to see Caitlin sing (with "WHITEBOY" Mitch Mitchell on guitar!!! LOL!). It was a charity show to raise money for...
band
...and then later that night I went to see his band, The Five O'Clock Heroes, play at the Mercury Lounge. Here's Elliot and Posh Tony in action.
band
...don't forget, back in the late 80s, Fatty (fourth from left - check out THAT MANE!) was the main ax-player in Nasty Magic, the sickest metal band in the entire greater-New Milford area of Connecticut!
band
...known as Drunky Brewster! They did not disappoint!
band
On Saturday night I went to a bar that's literally located across the street from my apartment to see unique musical stylings of Calisha Jenkins and Fabrisha Dankins, who are otherwise...
band
Post-show curtain shenanigans!
band
FILTHY BACK!
band
Sweaty Man + Dirty Floor =
band
...Rat Bite dramatically threw himself onto the floor over and over again at the end of the show.
band
Screaming!
band
Party!
band
Party!
band
Jared and Jesse!
band
Like the previous evening, the lead singer (who I believe Jesse and Jared both call "Rat Bite" if I'm not mistaken) put on an awesome show.
band
...and then I met up with Rubano to head to some venue in the Meat Packing District to see Generals & Majors perform again! Two nights in a row!
band
Generals & Majors is the new band that my friends Jesse and Jared started after Group Sounds, their old band, disbanded. They are pretty much the most fun band in NYC to see live. Their new lead singer totally lets go on stage and...
band
On Friday night, I whole bunch of us went to the Mercury Lounge to welcome Posh Tony and The Five O'Clock Heroes back to New York after months and months of touring in Europe.
band
...is the only person I've ever seen who has "jumping and kicking" skills that rival Grant's. Check out the height he gets! (This photo was taken by Jackie Roman)
