It was the five-year anniversary of their 'last show' in 2007 ! On Thursday night, I went to Piano's to see Group Sounds play a show! ...Brandon play an awesome acoustic set! ...and then I biked over to Piano's late night to see.... Watched my final show of the tour with their sound guy. Big open venue. Watched from the audience again. (Check out Nick and Mike's sweet, light-up guitars!) The venue was so packed I could only watch the show from the side-stage. I was exhausted after just 2 days of being on tour and I didn't even have a job to do! It was really impressive to watch the bands put on such high energy shows night after night. One minute there's a band playing and a crowd of screaming people... I really enjoyed watching the show from a different vantage point each evening. I had gone from never seen the Rejects play live to seeing them play three shows in three days. The show was awesome. Tyson climbed up the wall over to the balcony railing. Later that evening, Fatty and I went to see the show together. Nothing better than seeing your friends on stage doing what they love. I've known these guys for a few years but it was the first time I'd ever seen them play a show! ...Silversun Pickups play from the side-stage and laughed about how from a distance, Joe Lester, their keyboard player, looks like Chris Black doppleganger. (Only because of the beard and glasses from afar - up close, no dice). Congrats on playing your hometown dream-venue! Quinn & Gurj watching the show from the green room. Their stage-set is flanked by two animatronic wolves that have laser eyes. Haha. ...The Hives. I hadn't seen them since SXSW in 2004 ! We emerged into the Front of House mixbooth and watched the show for a bit. The band surveying... Line up for the night. One of the loveliest family dinners I've ever been to. Sunch a nice time. After dinner, we listened to Sean play songs with his family for a few hours. Great show! Later that night we went to a show at Cake Shop to see Kai play guitar in his buddy's band. We went back in to watch Hank & Cupcakes Caitlin chatted with fans at the merch table after the show. Later that night, Grant and I went to the Mercury Lounge to see Caitlin's amazing live band, The Broadcast . I like this record very much. It was an excellent show. ...Braid perform 1998's Frame & Canvas at Bowery Ballroom! Haha. So good. ...like play each others guitars without taking them off. Later, we went to see Locksley. They killed it, but unfortunately only one of the chicks there was into Ozzy's older stuff. Flying High Again. After everyone got hopped up on treats, it was time for a set of Ozzy Osbourne songs with Grant on vocals. We arrived just in time to see the band take the stage. The stage is designed to look like a porch! After dinner, the band came out and they were awesome. I expected Frank to be on kit, but we showed up to find him on the keys instead! Always impressed either way. ...Frank's gig with, Led Blimpie , a really, really good Led Zep tribute band. Awesome show. Three specials later we were magically transported to Bowery Ballroom to see Archers of Loaf! Ended the night with Posh Tony at the Merc. Blair Sheehan! (I was a huge Knapsack fan back in the day). ...I went out to the Brooklyn Knitting Factory to meet up with Vin and see The Jealous Sound. Later that night I went out to the Brooklyn Knitting Factory... Amalie & Brian. ...to see Kai play guitar with Ex-Cops. Yay! So awesome. On Wednesday afternoon we watched the DVR of the All-American Rejects playing The Tonight Show! ...that Matt was playing in.
