Phish's album A Picture of Nectar came out in February of my sophomore year in high school and I was obsessed with it. But this was the first time I had ever seen them live. The tickets were pretty fantastic. Show was great. They had a few different guys come up and sing. Fun show. ...a cover-band called HIPSTER: The House Band of the Lower East Side. Peep that turd-cutter, ladies! But it turns out we were in for one more treat: Pink see-through Genie pants. If you look at this photo closely, you'll notice that Har Mar's treating some front-row "super fan" to the "ultimate" live experience . Haha. I thought this was the end of the line... Yep. Uh-oh. "Fingerlicking good" isn't a phrase I'm comfortable with at a rock show. Shirtless? How about a costume change? Oh, neckstands aren't enough? You want more? Sure, I've got more for you... ...that's the marking for where he does a god damned NECK STAND. I would have been impressed by this alone, never mind that fact that HarMar was singing a song (and killing it) the whole time. If you're wondering about that orange square on the stage... ...and regularly SLAYS crowds. He wears shirts like this... ...looks like Ron Jeremy... ...who could it be but... ...Har Mar Superstar! They were opening up for... Later that night we went to the Mercury Lounge to see Posh Tony and play with The Five O'Clock Heroes. So much awesome. Followed by an all-girl Misfits cover band, Ghouls Night Out ! There was a stage set up in Tompkins Square Park and Jessica Delfino (of "Don't Rape Me" fame) was playing. ...to see Nightmare of You play a set! Later that night Mer and I went to the Bowery Poetry Club... Phoenix is amazing live. On Friday night I went up to Central Park because... The Horrors came out and played a set from their new record! Then later on in the night The Drums played downstairs. (Thank you, highly visible kick drum!) ...the Tribecca Grand. This band played! This band was playing in the main room. My dentist is also the RAMONES DENTIST! (Should that be taken as an endorsement or a warning?) After I got out of work on Thursday, I met up with Meredith at the Highline Ballroom to see Stellastarr. This was as close to the stage as we could get! Back to the band again! Then he switched his guitar for a bass and Seth took over on vocals. These guys all play in a wedding band together and Dave thought it would be fun to play HIS OWN WEDDING! YES! Six Piece Nastee !Everyone backed Dave up while he played guitar and serenaded Marina. ...because Frank had a gig there and we wanted to say hi and hear them play! Of course she got her shit signed by the band. Hahah. It was basically Spinal Tap come to life (and I mean that in a good way). The crowd was feeling it. They put on an awesome show. Hot lix. At the end, the director came out again and thanked them. Plus, the light show was pretty sick. For seriously. ...and ANVIL came out and played. Lips kept coming down off the stage and into the crowd to do guitar solos. As soon as the movie ended, the screen rolled up... Anvil guitarist and lead singer Steve "Lips" Kudlow back in the salad days. Check out the killer locks. He almost looks like a member of NASTY MAGIC ! On Thursday afternoon, I got an instant message out of the blue from my friend Bev. Her boyfriend Adrian had an extra ticket to see Propagandhi play that night and she wanted to know if I was interested in going! Holy shit, yes! People were diving the whole show. Hadn't seen that in a while. Canadian icon. This is your life. Dan Yemen's band, Paint it Black , was one of the opening bands and halfway through Propagandhi's set, he came out on stage to sing a few songs. Nothing made me feel older than not-knowing that one of my favorite bands of all time (that hardly ever comes to the States to play) was playing a show right down the street. The show was amazing. The band was really fun. Bob commandeered the mic...
