fire

After you're done unwrapping a gift, you have to throw the wrapping paper in the fire because it makes the flame burn in all sorts of different neat colors.
fire
...then we queued up the "Happy Holiday Hearth" DVD on Fatty's tv...
fire
After dinner, we all headed back over to Fatty's for presents! But first, we had to make sure to cozy the place up. First we got a fire going in Fatty's fireplace...
fire
...and to make things just completely over the top and ridiculous, Siege pulled out his video iPod and put on a different version of a log burning in a fireplace!
fire
...in time to prevent the fire from spreading. Shit got pretty intense before they managed to put it out.
fire
On Sunday afternoon I was relaxing in my living room, reading a book, when all hell broke loose outside! Here's the view from my window - apparently the people who lived in the cute garden house forgot to unplug a space heater or something and their apartment caught on fire. The doors were all heavily bolted and the windows were barred and the firemen weren't able to get inside...
fire
So when we got back to the house, we started getting ready for the big party. Putting all the food and booze out, getting another fire going outside.
fire
By the time we got up there, it was almost 2am. A bunch of people had been hanging out around a fire outside and when we showed up, most of them were heading to bed.
fire
Grant, who'd been the biggest proponent for Fatty getting the fireplace operational ("Just imagine the S'more we'll be able to make!") give this double thumbs up.
fire
Fatty put it back in the back, rolled it up and lit it. No harm done!
fire
After dinner we picked up a Duraflame log so that we could try out the fireplace in Fatty's apartment! It wasn't working when he moved in, but he dropped a chunk of change to have it cleaned and repaired and he was finally ready for his inaugural fire. While we weren't paying attention he made the rookie mistake of unwrapping the log from the wrapper.
fire
They busted out the ladder and everything!
fire
Apparently, there was a fire in an apartment in the building next to ours.
fire
We ended up closing out MisShapes (around 4:45) and after briefly warming our hands by the fire...

Several minutes later while I was focusing on making sure I toasted my marshmallow just right, I left myself wide-open for...
fire
...HOLY SHIT! What's up, three foot flame? Jeeeeez! Ok, and that's about it for September.

We sat around waiting for the BBQ to start and after a while the bartender finally came out to the back patio with a whole cooler full of meat - but then they weren't able for the life of them get the grill going (they had a charcoal grill, but couldn't find the briquette chimney that makes igniting the charcoal really easy). A former teen-pyromaniac, I could only sit by for so long before offering up my assistance. I got that shit cookin', yo. And this guy thinks he's the Firestarter. Psssh.
fire
Jess' good friend Guilles (sp?), who I hadn't seen in over four years!
fire
Jess, moments away from almost burning off her eyebrows whilst trying to light a cigarette off of the giant tiki-flame.
fire
Viola! With all of the torches lit, the course was fully illuminated.
fire
Speaking of, check out the action photo I managed to capture of some random party guest completely burning off his eyebrows while spitting a huge tikitorch-fuel fireball.
fire
Jess preparing to, um, tee off? (Is that what it's called in croquet?)
fire
With a belly fulla Steak 'n Shake, we headed back to Brett's place. He cooked up a big fire in his portable, outdoor fireplace and invited some friends over to say goodbye.
fire
...or sitting around in front of the fire.
fire
...and taking "I'm in front of a fire" vanity photos!
fire
Turns out that Grant was too scared outside in the dark by himself to take the time to find some dry kindling. So after his "girlyfire" went out I had to go out and find some wood to get the real fire going (but I still let him pose in front of it like he had something to do with it).
fire
Grant gives the thumbs up to the fire he built. (Just for the record, the flame you see is actually just newspaper burning and his "fire" promptly died out like 10 seconds after the photo was taken).
