Me and Lawrence (Sarah's brother of Brother Lawrence fame). And yes, I am wearing the same ghetto-ass bow-tie-drawn-on-with-marker shirt I made for the MisShapes Prom that was a few days prior.
Take, for instance, this picture of Kusum and Sarah. If I kept showing band photos, I wouldn't be able to tell you that even though Kusum's an editor at a fancy magazine these days, back in 1998 she was doing keg-stands in my basement.
Er, dates. (Sorry, Niki). Actually, as much as I'd like to pretend I was the prom queen's man, she was really there with Mark (the tall guy from the Killers). I just managed to steal a kiss.
I didn't have a real bowtie (or a real dress shirt, if we're being honest) so I went with an old prom stand-by and just drew a bow tie on a t-shirt with marker. From a few feet away, it almost looked real!
Grant poses with what can only be described as the Prom Queen. (Ba-dum-dum Cha! Thank You! Thank you! I'll be here all weekend! Don't forget to tip your waitresses...)
Some stranger (who bears a creepy resemblance to face painted on the side of the old "Tunnel of Love" amusement building in Asbury Park, NJ...look below, see?), Emma, Grant & JimJazz.
By the time we got there, shit was already in full effect. Check out the homemade "Diamonds and Pearls" Prom-theme banner hanging in the background. Noice!
We ended up getting stuck on the ridiculously hot subway platform for over an hour! Then, making matters worse, the subway kept stopping! It took us almost two hours just to get from Manhattan to Brooklyn.
