Josh's wife reached out to me about scanning some old photos of Josh for his upcoming 40th birthday. I was happy to oblige. Jeans and sandals with a walking flexdown when he sees the camera? Classic Newman.
Yep, see? He looks sober in this photo! I also worked with John and Lillian at Modem Media way back when and hadn't seen the two of them in six years either! Happy Birthday, Stoopid Newman! It was great to see you! I ended up catching the 11pm MetroNorth train back to NYC (because Dens got back in the car and drove up to Mt. Snow). After the train ride, I went home to relax for a bit, then around 3am, I decided to swing by Orchard Bar to see what was going on.
...Dodgeball.com t-shirt! Dennis to Josh: "Happy Birthday...now help promote my company!" (Actually, I'm only teasing Dennis! The dodgeball shirt was relevant because after we graduated college and we all got booted off Syracuse University's web servers, Dennis bought the dodgeball.com domain as a place for the three of us to move our personal sites to! They were hosted there for a year or two until Dennis wanted to use to domain for a "city guide" project he was working on in 2000. So that's when Dennis moved his personal site to TeenDrama.com and I bought the I Keep a Diary domain!)
Later that night I met up with Josh Newman (aka "Stupid Newman!") who was in the city visiting from Connecticut to attend our friend Geoff's (aka - "Frenchy") bday party. Josh and I went to college together (what up, 1998!) and ended as post-grad roommates after we both took jobs at the same ad agency.
Here's me and Josh surprising Geoff by showing up at his bday party! (Which he liked a lot better than the totally awesome birthday surprise Newman and I cooked up for him back in 1999!) Hahaha.
Earlier on that year, we had had established a birthday tradition...we'd dig up the most embarrashing photo we could find of whoever's birthday it was and have the image enlarged an scanned onto a "photo cake." Geoff thought that by hiding all of his embarrassing photos, he'd be safe. Well Geoff, not taking Newman's and my cleverness and Photoshop prowess into account, thought wrong.
Okay, at this point it starting to show that the party was open bar all night. After watching me jump over my leg, an overconfident Josh Newman says "Hey, anyone can do that." He's not even holding his foot and he still couldn't do it.
Look at this fucking character. This is my new roommate Stupid Newman. He moved to Connecticut with me right after graduation to work at Modem Media. These two pictures pretty much define Newman. In this first one, he didn't realize I was taking a photo in time enough to flex...
Here's my Advertising Campaigns class, with our professor Beth "Dip Me In Chocolate" Barnes (don't ask, you don't want to know) getting shitty doing shots at Darwin's after our final. (Which was the last final I had to take in order to graduate.)
