So after my first month in town (that was mostly spent apartment hunting and then going to bed early because I couldn't find anyone fun to hang out with at night) I finally met my savior: Ladies and Gentleman, Mr. Mike Fucking Doyle. Mike saw on my site that I was moving out to SF and on the first Saturday in October sent me an email tipping me off to a backyard party that was going on later in the evening. I wrote him back and was like "Thanks for the invite, but would you mind meeting up with me and we can go together? I don't know anyone in town and I don't want to be that guy that's standing around at a small party where everyone knows each other and everyone's wondering what he's doing there." Mike agreed and I went over to a bar called Casanova where he was DJing to meet up.
Oh yeah, and based on this picture I guess I also played "Hot For Teacher" by VH. (I only know that because it's the only song with a pick-slide hot enough to merit a physcial reenactment).
At some point in the night, somebody found this creepy haircutting practice-head and put it on the booth monitor. We named her Lila and she ended up making the rounds.
And that something turned out to be Leigh's shirt! First we tried the "dropping the shirt off the shoulders" trick. I took a bunch of pics like this and thought they were great - but then Leigh had an even better idea.
On Monday night I went over to Pianos where Geordan and Leigh were DJing again to take a few more pics - I wanted something really fun and naughty for the lead photo of the piece.
With the exception of an upcoming photo where Sarah is pouring an entire beer out on her own head, this is my favorite picture of her. Talking, smoking, drinking, DJing, pimping.
Sarah was there to DJ - or "play CDs" as she now says (as she's tired of defending herself to morons who take time out of their incredibly important days to write her lengthy, venomous (and of course anonymous) notes explaining why she's not a "real" DJ).
Turns out that the brand new party Sarah was DJing was the the very first of the now legendary MisShapes party. We got there just in time to catch the last of Sarah's first set. Here's Sarah with Geordon.
So at this point, it's a little before 4am and technically the place should be closing, but we're all having fun and a new DJ comes on and starts tearing it up and we said to ourselves "Hey, it's not all that often that you have a dancefloor all yourself..."
