The sky cleared up and everyone helped clean up the last bit of rubble and party debris left over on the beach from the party. Dramatic clouds over the beach. A wonderfully pine-crackling way to welcome the new year! Around 3am, we ran out of firewood and someone got the bright idea to round up a bunch of Christmas trees that were left by the side of the road and bring them down to the beach! MORE FIRE! Snappy. Once the majority of people had arrived, they started with fireworks! KABLOOEY! With the party in full swing... ...a crowd gathered along the windy waterfront to watch... ...and we headed down to a dance floor that had been built out on the beach! Sandcastle. After eating, we went down for a stroll on the beach. Around 10pm, we shoved sand onto the fire... Later that evening, all the guests that had arrived and gotten settled in went down to the beach for a camp fire. Not much happening. Low tide. No one around in either direction! We got a few hours in during the early morning, but around 10:30, a few really big big waves (double-overheads!) started coming in. That waterproof sunblock really brings out my eyes. Even at low tide, there is a hip-deep river you have to wade through. Maddie had to carry her dog because the current was moving too quickly fro him to swim! Monday, 9am. Beach front construction. During low tide, we decided to explore the beach in the other direction. I decided to go for a post-lunch swim and Meredith snapped this pic of the house dog accompanying me. We saw the birds were centered above a boat of fisherman that had just come ashore. Another beautiful sunset. The point. Gorgeous coastline. Pirate camp. ...by the fishermen who'd recently come ashore. Headed north up the beach. ...to do some exploring down the beach! The waves were working super early in the morning. After the tide went out, we went back to sleep and then got up around noon... Sun until 6:30pm is such a relief after New York's early darkness. Maddie giving a local kitten a sand bath! Parked right up on the beach. Empty line up. The entire beach is covered in the mysterious scrawls of beach snails. WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL US? Morning beach view. That's covered in lovely, brink-pink flowers! Home sweet haciencda! The beach outside is covered with some sort of local vine. View outside the house patio. Plenty of room for frisbee. Hardly anyone on the beach. Man chats. Ocean kayak. Most relaxing day. We dove to another gorgeous nearby beach. Sunset jump shots. Hahaha. You serious, Clark? Check out the sunset. Everyone else reeled their kite in and Matt used our rolls of string... So things got cooperative and everyone let out their strings ALL THE WAY. Four way fighting involved way too much running. It didn't take long for the kite fights to start. Plenty of kites for everyone. And met up with Dave and a bunch of other people we'd met the previous evening. The were having some drinks, enjoying the sun and... We walked a couple hundred yards... ...down the beach that looks like this. Right next to the turquoise ocean is a coastal dune lake. The contrast in colors is crazy. Lake of cola. Hardly any waves. The sand is really fine quartz sand that makes weird "barking" noises as you walk over it. It feels like you got shipwrecked somewhere. The next day, I got to see Florida's panhandle coast in the sun for the very first time. It is one of the nicest beaches I've ever seen. ...had beaches like this. I didn't know that Florida... Afterwards, we hopped back into the car to drive around. We found this beautiful stretch of deserted beach and pulled over... ...the beach! But hey, it's still... The beach at the harbor is weird because their are no waves so it's just like a big salty lake. Later that afternoon, we drove over to the harbor side beach. We stopped to take a look at a beautiful stretch of beach because... Heading out. Perfect. Love this guy. Thanks, Ellen! We still finished the entire thing. Hahah. I love the sunlight through the clouds. ...it's time to get going. Breaking out the beach sweater! Shake the sand out of your blanket... The dreaded birthday ass-vice!
