a thing in 268 photos living room On Thursday morning Vin came over again to work on the comic! Spent Friday convalescing on my heating pad. Vin came over on Monday morning for our weekly work session! Woke up on Saturday to the sight of my new carpet... Much better! Removing a rug and putting a new rug down without being able to move the furniture out of the room is the ultimate New York puzzle. My living room was looking kind of crazy with the patterned rug I'd gotten, so I decided to swap it out for something simpler. Jeet came over for a Sunday evening hang. Moved everything out of my office on Saturday morning... Oh, you know just sitting around, foam rolling, playing guitar... ...move everything out of the way into the living room so that we could... Later Sunday afternoon, my most recent shipment of WEIRDO GEAR arrived courtesy of Amazon. Kicked off my 2016 with a chilly Sunday morning... By 7pm, everyone had arrived and we settled into the beach-front living room... ...and we had a Thai food feast hang! Happy holidays! Ta-da! New carpet! I had to figure out how to get the old carpet out and put the new carpet down by strategically moving my furniture around! Cleaned my messy apartment... Got a bunch of new camera gear on Saturday. Happy to be home in my lovely apartment after my long drive down to Florida Installed! Got a new mirror for the living room. Morning foam-rolling routine. Vin came over for a hang and sammiches. Meredith had recently broken up with Dylan and our HEARTBREAK HOTEL agreement always stands so she came to stay on the couch for a few days and took turns holding the dogs until she felt better. Woke up on my couch super early... Jane Anne turbo charging up with an iced tea. My living room gets excellent afternoon sun. Every few months I'd set up a camera to check my posture and progress (A lot of times I'd think I was upright and then see the photos and it wouldn't even be close). Anyway, I've included a few for posterity. ;) I spend a lot of time on my own doing a lot of strange things. In August of 2015 of was a few months deep into a pretty serious inversions practice. On Saturday morning I had Grant... Later that evening, Matt, Meredith & Ellen came over! Mer was getting ready to take a trip with Dylan for the first time! ...and steam vacuuming my carpets! Cleaned my apartment on Monday afternoon... When I finished that, I took care of all my plants. I spent Thursday evening wrestling this bad-boy down from my lofted bed. Caught a cab back to Manhattan with Matt and made it back home to my living room by 2am! Tuesday evening in July. Watching the sun through my living room window... ...and sitting with Maddy while she chew some rawhide. ...Mer, J-rod and Gurj came over for Tiny's Giant Sandwiches and a mega-hang! My neck was still bothering me so I spent Tuesday evening... Set up the table for Kristina. Documenting the late afternoon light... ...spilling into the living room. Took the bus back to NYC and spent Sunday evening playing piano... ...catching up on Game of Thrones... On Thursday night, I went over to Grant's to watch I'm Alan Partridge and eat Japanese noodles. Few of my friends can resist the lure of a keyboard that's already set up! Going for it. On Thursday night Cat came over for a hang. I had my keyboard set up in the living room... Spent Saturday afternoon playing guitar and working on writing songs. (Two years later and I am still very much obsessed with this! I'm trying to write all songs that I'd want to sing at karaoke! EARLY 90S KARAOKE!) Nyquilled myself all day and binge-watched the first season of Marc Maron's TV show. Meredith was in the neighborhood because she was working on getting her name changed back (Awwww, gain a Battjer - lose a Battjer!) and came over for an afternoon pizza party! Meredith got up to leave well-before the game was over and as she got on her coat I asked her, "Headed out to another gathering?" "Nah," she replied, "just don't give a shit about who wins." Haha. Later that evening I walked over to Sarah's apartment to watch the Superbowl... Tough wintery January Sunday. Ta-ha! (The design changes when viewed at an angle - you can more-easily see the "cube" inside) Spent the evening sitting with, and trying to bring awareness to, the full feelings of my dissatisfaction. On Sunday afternoon I set up my reiki table... Newly painted living room is still a nice surprise in the morning! Later that evening, Meredith came over for a Gruppo pizza night. Jalapeno & pineapple! Mmmmmm. I finished painting all of the recessed window-boxes with brown paint, and put all the furniture back in the right place. Back at my apartment, I decided it was finally time to... Woke up on Wednesday and was excited to see what my new living room looked like in the sunlight. I bought a second color paint to do the recessed window-boxes, but figured I'd let the blue paint dry a bit before continuing. Moved all the furniture back in place! Ta-da! ...I was almost finished. Painting always takes a lot longer than you think it's going to take! Over four hours after starting.... Two hours in, I got to a point where I had to cut down my string sculpture of Metatron's Cube. Ninety minutes in and I'd made solid progress! I'd been living in NYC for fourteen years and I've had nine different apartments; this was the first time I ever decided to paint a single wall! Here we go! After living with white walls for three-and-a-half years, on Tuesday evening I bought paint for the living room. Picture of my living room, sans television, for the first time! Like a missing tooth, the gap has since filled in, but my tongue still pokes around in there. Worked from home on Monday afternoon. ...and AC/DC songs on the guitar. We got veggie sandwiches from Tiny's and watched Eastbound & Down. I was supposed to volunteer helping out with a meditation weekend at Shambhala, but they called to say they had too many people booked and I suddenly had a free weekend on my hands. Cleaned my apt! Did a little bit of measuring, and found a nice spot for them... ...in the living room! A little bit of bleed-over from the end of September ! On Sunday night, Grant, Amanda & Mer came over to watch the finale of Breaking Bad followed by the premiere of Eastbound & Down. Sunday with these lovelies. Cleaned up my messy living room and sat for a while. Worked from home in the morning...
