The December Roundup: Part One

Here are the first half of the pics I took in December of 2008. (On to Part Two)

Saturday, December 6th

meredith — On a Saturday morning in early December, Meredith busted out this feather wreath that she was excited...

meredith — ...to hang on our door.

I was like, "A feather wreath, wtf?" And Meredith explained that "It's got some holiday cheer without being too Christmassy."

meredith — Plus, it tickles the face of any people trying to look into our apartment through the peep hole.

michael — Later that night, Mandy invited us to see Stellastarr play a warm up show.

mandy — Thanks, Mandy.

michael — It was pretty awesome.

michael — I'm writing this on December 11, 2010 - only ~~59 weeks~~ 111 weeks later (thanks for the correction, Ralph. Bad math!), but I remember this night and it seems like a million years ago. Good times.

karen — Karen was there rocking this incredible DREAM STREET shirt (with braided hair AND pin on her shirt that says "FUCK THAT SHIT" Haha).

After the Stellastarr show, we went over to Pianos and saw WOLFF play. It's this guy Brian Wolff's band. Just a drummer and him playing the tuba into a sequencer. I know after that description you might have a hard time believing this, but he's awesome. The loops he creates through the sequencer are beautiful. I'd never heard anything like it.

brother lawrence — I think we were taking a "sneaky photo" of the girl in the white fur hat in the background, but I forget why. I like this photo because Lawrence looks like a proud eight year-old for some reason. Haha.

Then they invited the bartender up on stage for one song and he like freestyled with them or something.

After, we went across the street and got s'mores crepes. Holy shit.

brother lawrence — Mind = Blown.

mandy — Man, who's a bigger treat hound than me? This is still the same night! This photo is me getting in line to get a slice at Rosario's at 3:39am.

Sunday, December 7th

On Sunday afternoon we went to Lawrence's karaoke birthday at The Annex.

leigh, meredith — I can't really drink until it's dark out (I don't know why!). But luckily, it was already dark outside at 5pm in December, plus The Annex doesn't have any windows (it's like a casino in there) so we all started getting our drinky drink on. Mer and Leigh.

brother lawrence, jeet — Because hey, karaoke! Here's Gurj and an awesomely red-faced Lawrence. Happy Birthday! This was the second karaoke birthday party that Karaoke Killed the Cat hosted. The first one I'd been to was in 2006 and it was epic.

jeet, leigh, mandy, meredith, omri — Gurj, Mandy, Meredith, Leigh holding up Edie who she snuck up into the balcony via her purse, and Omri.

brother lawrence, sarah — This photo makes me LOL every time I look at it. Sarah looks like she's preaching and that girl in the background is doing her best to politely wait out the offer of a shared microphone. Hahah.

leigh, sarah — I tried to sneak my arm in for a sneaky photo and this is what happened. Hahaha.

brother lawrence — RAGE! This gets the award for most cathartic birthday moment.

leigh, meredith — OMG. Back in the day, Leigh used to be out late every single weeknight in the Lower East Side - so much so that she became friends with some of the garbage men that had that route and they used to give her and her roommate Jessica rides home to make sure they got home safely. Haha. We got out of Lawrence's party and when a garbage truck passed us, Leigh hailed it like a taxi AND THE GUY STOPPED. Hahaha. Let's hear it for free rides!

Monday, December 8th

Monday morning. Our dev team doubled in size in less than a year so we had to buckle down and figure out how to keep our Agile software development methodology running smoothly without taking up too much time in administrative overhead.

Most people I know have a hard time imagining what I do for a living. The details of it look like this. Exactly.

Wednesday, December 10th

On Wednesday evening I went to the Stuyvesant Town offices to drop off our rent check and it's the same office that houses the crazy Orwellian Stuyvesant security offices where there are three guys monitoring hundreds of remote-controllable security cameras that are mounted EVERYWHERE.

Each screen was divided into four camera feeds! Bananas.

Saturday, December 13th

meredith — On Saturday we all met up at La Palapa for Mexican brunch!

Huevos Rancheros there are no joke.

Later that night I headed out to Brooklyn to attend...

frank, liz — ...Frank and Liz's Christmas party! They pretty much have my favorite holiday party every year.

seth — Amy and Seth.

fatty — The Fatty! He was really excited because he found a box of cupcakes stashed away somewhere.

fatty — Just because you hide cupcakes doesn't mean Fatty won't eat them if he finds them.

The cupcakes were for Frank's birthday! Liz opened the box to put candles in them and was like "Why is one missing? Where's Fatty?" Hahahaha.

frank, liz, lydia — Happy Birthday!

fatty, seth — After cupcakes, the guys took turns playing instruments and sang a bunch of tunes.

amanda, me — Me and Amander.

fatty — I tried to teach Fatty how to do that loud "hail a taxi" whistle and then I took photos of him trying to pull it off.

fatty — He looks like a friendly holiday walrus.

amanda, marina — Amanda and Marina looking pretty in front of the tree.

amanda, bill w, marina — Around 1am, everyone put on their jackets...

frank — ...and Frank played us out. Hahah. I love this photo so much. You can feel the warmth. Happy Holidays!

amanda, seth — We got back into Manhattan and decided to keep the night going at the Sly Fox.

lisa, pauly — Lisa and Pauly came and met us!

meredith — So did Meredith!

meredith — I gave her a temporary tattoo of a holiday penguin that I'd picked up for her at Frank and Liz's party.

seth — Ugly face time! Seth.

I'm pretty much phoning it in here, but the fact that my eyes are facing in directions almost ninety degrees apart has got to count for something.

meredith — Haha.

scott ward — Scott's first attempt. But when he realized that "just a dry lip" wasn't going to set him apart from the pack...

scott ward — ...he decided to up the ante and almost rip his face in half. Nicely played, sir.

lisa — Lisa going with a classic "DOY!" face. Killer.

pauly — Droopy dentist!

lisa — This is a fantastic ugly face. It looks like she's tasting the most terrible thing ever and it makes me laugh every single time I see it.

pauly — Hahah. I like this one because it looks like someone else is pulling his face.

amanda, lisa, pauly, seth — It's good to have friends.

lisa — I wanted to take a photo of Lisa looking like a little angle in her fuzzy winter hat thing - but when she saw this photo she was ENRAGED by the hole in her bangs. She did a quick tousle, closed up the hole in her hair curtain...

lisa — ...and demanded a reshoot. PERFECT ANGELS HAVE PERFECT HAIR CURTAINS OR THEY'RE NOT PERFECT ANGELS.

Sunday, December 14th

ellen, piper — Hahah. On Sunday night Ellen came over with Piper. Piper's tongue is too long to fit in her mouth so it always peeks out.

piper — Pah-thetic.

piper — The wreath we'd taped to our door fell off and it was sitting in this chair. Piper discovered it there and turned the wreath into a feathery little dog nest!

Monday, December 15th

I like squirrels, but Stuytown pretty much has a squirrel INFESTATION. It's pretty ridiculous. As you walk along the path, every single tree will have two, sometimes three squirrels clinging to it hiding from you all Mission: Impossible style.
