My neighbors on 8th street are fighting about whether or not to allow the city to build a new senior center over a lot where there's a community garden. People who want the center are posting signs calling the garden a RAT FARM. haha. (It's not untrue).
The big new on Ave D is there's a new deli opening up to challenge Sergio Deli Superette's longstanding deli-hegemony. What did they choose to call this new deli?
I was walking out, she was walking in! Look who I ran into on the way home! If you need a pack of smokes, a toy with blinking lights or a DVD with either variety of a person having sex with a horse ("You want man fuck horse or horse fuck man?") THIS is your lady! (I've been running into her on the mean, late-night streets of NYC since 2005!)
Spent the snowy President's Day off catching up on errands and worrying about the the business trip I had to take tomorrow for a new client that was starting to feel like a bad fit. (They ended up being a disaster - lesson learned! Trust your gut!)
Walking home later that night, I noticed for the first time that Nice Guy Eddie's bar has been replaced by some new mom-safe abomination called Boulton & Watt. *hangs head*
I spent Sunday evening watching a documentary Davo sent me about a Dutch journalist interviewing Iggy Pop as he walks the interviewer around my neighborhood in 1993.
I take strange comfort in the flyers people hang in the neighborhood to give others a chance to pay respects at a wake. I also really like the photo that they chose to commemorate Walter with.
The Volvo was on fire so severely that it managed to burn the back and front of the two cars parked nearest before the fire department got it under control.
Someone puts up these flyers in my neighborhood. They are always worth deciphering:
"If you love someone kill your cell phone and pick up a sketch notebook or Scotch on the rocks. Save your eyesite make friends not enemies. Save wild life. Throw a party in the human jungle."
Afterwards, we walked down to Bowery to grab a bite. On the way, we noticed all sorts of signs of Sandy in the neighborhood. Like these palettes of food piled up on the street outside of the church.
I had a quiet day at home on Monday waiting for the storm to arrive. According to the NYC Hurricane Evacuation map , my apartment was in an area label for mandatory evacuation. I figured I'd rather spend a few days roughing it in the apartment with Maddy over heading to one of the big NYC group-shelters. Besides, how bad could it get anyway? Around 7:30pm, the streets below my apartment started to flood. Ruh-oh!
I'm still obsessed with the idea of buying an RV, subletting my apartment and tooling around the country for a few months with Maddy as my co-pilot. This beauty is still for sale right down the street from me. I daydream every time I pass it.
(If you own an RV and are interested in doing a 1-3 month swap for my 2BR East Village apartment, please get in touch!)
